I have never flown Westjet before and am going to be booking soon.... do they charge for baggage and how much can you bring?
Also do they assign seats? I really want to sit with my DD's since it's just us going

Thanks

2 Checked bags allowed-50lbs each no charge if within this allowance.
I have flown them to Las Vegas and we paid to choose our seat assignment. Cannot recall how much..but it was nominal. :confused3

I booked with them for our trip.
2 checked at 50lbs each and 2 carry-on. Carry on 1st item is 21.5inX9inX15.5in and second is 16.5inX6inX13in no more then 22 lbs each.

I also had to pay $84.00 to get seats next to each other. We have a flight from St. John's NL to Toronto then To or Orlando...then our return.

I booked our seats together 2 weeks or so after I had the trip booked.
MY TA forgot/failed to mention we would not be sitting together unless i paid to make it happen.
So when I found out I just called WESTJET and gave them my card and did it over the phone.

We have flown on WESTJET several times and will fly again in a couple of weeks. As a family of four we have never paid the extra to sit together. 24 hours before flight time you can go in and pick your seats for free and we have never had a problem.

I am going by myself with DD5 and DD7 so I would really like to make sure we are sitting together.. does anyone know what the fee is?

And, in case it gets asked, you pay per-direction not per leg. So, if you have a stopover (or two) on your way to MCO, you'd still only pay one fee. You will, however, pay the more expensive fee. So, if you have two legs and only one is in the emergency row (and the other is in a "normal" row, you'll still pay $15.

ok the fee is only for emergency exit rows? So if I want to sit with my kids in a non emergency exit row then I don't have to pay a fee?:confused3

No, $10 for pre-booking regular seat assignment and $15 for Emergency row seat assignment.

You can also check in online 24hours prior and I am sure be seated together without doing any of the above, free of charge.:confused3

No, as has been stated the fee for emergency row seats is $15 and the fee for non-emergency row seats is $10 (both prices are per direction).

Not paying the fee does not mean that you will not be sitting next to your children, it just means that you will have to choose from the "left over" seats at the 24 hour mark.

If the flight isn't very full, you should still be able to find seats together (though finding three seats together may be difficult even if the flight isn't totally full).

If the flight is full and a lot of people choose to pay the fees (or if you are unable to check in near the 24 hour mark and many other people have checked in before you) you may not be able to find seats together (or even near each other).

Depending on when your flights are (i.e. how full they are likely to be), how much you want/need to sit beside your daughters, and how close to the 24 hour mark you'll be able to check-in, you can choose to pay the fee (and select your seats now) or not pay the fee (and risk sitting apart).

ETA - My experience with WJ with flights around Christmas was that there were not even any pairs of seats available right at the 24 hour mark. On other flights (not at busy times and not to Florida), there were at least a few pairs of seats left. We were adults who were fine sitting apart, so we were willing to take the risk (and emergency row seats weren't available by the time we booked, so that wasn't an option).

Is it true if I fly out of Toronto on Westjet that I clear customs in Toronto and don't have to in Orlando so I can use my ME tags?

Last time I flew Air Transat

Yes. For most airlines (other than charter airlines) you clear US customs/immigration in Toronto (technically, you are doing "pre-clearance", but it amounts to the same thing).

You baggage arrives as if it came from a domestic flight.
