I am thinking of heading down March 2006. My parents have a placed in St Petes Beach and go down each year at the end of Feb. until mid April so I won't have to pay for hotel.

I doubt my husband will want to go but I was thinking Winter Break with my boys and their Grandparents might be fun. Of course we would go to Disney for a day or two.

Anyway Westjets fares are $200 dollars cheaper than Air Canada (that's total - for 3 fares, not each).

Just wondering if anyone has flown WestJet to Tampa?

:wave2: Hi,
I have flown Westjet to Orlando. Loved it, had wonderful service and straight thru from Calgary. Check soon for price, I read a post today in this forum that prices are going up again! Have a great trip :flower:
Also, Westjet always seems to be lower than Air Canada. (Calgary to Florida)

I flew Westjet last Dec from Toronto to Orlanda. They were great :) I wouldn't hesitate to use them again...if the price was right  I flew NW from Detroit in May and will be again this Oct only because it was cheaper.

Dis-n-Jan - where did you hear this?? My daughter will be booking Westjet soon from NB to Orlando because they are cheaper than AC and there aren't too many options out there. I just got this feeling today that she needs to do it soon and then I read what you just said. Starting to get stressed out - I was hoping to wait for a sale but then I thought maybe they should book now.

You might want to check CanJet as well. I have 2 adults and one child booked from Halifax to Orlando in early December for a total of $1377 return. I believe that the price is better than Westjet and Air Canada.

barb45-It has been on cbc news that both AC and Westjet are raising their prices due to fuel rates, but last night they were stating they would only be increasing domestic flights and flights to the US would remain the same. Of course, who knows for sure :confused3

Hi..
Just flew WestJet to Orlando from Toronto yesterday. I love WestJet. This is the 2nd time I've flown with them and will fly with them whenever I can. It was nice to walk by the long Air Canada line. No wait in line to check in and I love that they have a sense of humour. The TVs on the back of each seat is great. I highly recommend them.

Sandra :)

I flew Westjet - Hamilton to NB in April and have nothing but praise for them. They really try to provide the best service possible. I couldn't believe that a cabin steward insisted on helping me with my carry-on! And your right about that sense of humour thing. Very nice.

I am so grateful for all your insight and comments.

I have heard that WestJet is amazing but just wanted to hear it from Disers!

Guess I need to talk my hubby into this, or maybe I will just take my boys (17 and 13) down for a week of Grandma's spoiling and hopefully I may get some spoiling too!

Thanks again for the info!

:wave2: I read this in a post "price hikes for Florida" posted by princess aurora. Prices have already gone up a couple of months ago. We went in Jan/05 paid $259.pp In April went up to $299pp. We are hoping to go once more in Jan/06 so I too have been waiting for a seat sale, but now I'm thinking about booking too. Sorry I can't give you a definite answer, hopefully they won't raise the prices yet!!!
Have a great day :flower:

You may want to price Buffalo - Tampa with Southwest Airlines.
www.southwest.com

Their rates are usually cheaper and Buffalo airport is awesome! I will never fly from Toronto again if I can avoid. Clearing customs at the bridge takes half the stress out of traveling!

to those of you thinking of booking now for jan 06 I would hold off for a seat sale. $299 plus taxes is mighty high for january.

I've never flown West Jet, but after reading these posts I checked their website for our dates. The flight down would be $261 each (including taxes) and the return would be $288 (again inc. taxes). It sounded good at first, until I clued in that it each way ... not round trip ... right now AC was at about $400 and a bit including taxes.

I am keen on trying Buffalo, but I am not too excited about adding a three hour drive as opposed to an hour one to Toronto (I will have an almost 5 yr old and a 2.5 yr old). I want to fly straight as well, no stop overs. This would just add to an already hectic day for the kids.

Can you choose your seats ahead of time on WEstJet?

We just booked my daughter on Westjet. They are flying Moncton-Toronto-Orlando and then driving back with us for Christmas and returning from Hamilton to Moncton (which makes it cheaper). But their total for 2 passengers was $1003.00!! They just don't have too many choices out there. We live in Windsor so we just hop across the bridge and have a multitude of non-stop choices - we're lucky. My other daughter and SIL are flying out of Detroit to California for $450.00US for 2 people taxes included - I just don't get it.

Is it not too early to look at West Jet and Air Canada flights right now for December departures? They're still working on summer seat sales right now. I'm hoping that by autumn, we can see some better prices.

I'd love to fly out of Buffalo but my parents, who my brother and I are taking to Orlando, don't want to go that way and I'm a bit nervous doing that in the winter. (And after a week of Operation Invasion Mickey, I'm too tired to drive an extra 1.5 hours back home.) :rotfl2:

So...we're gonna hope for seat sales on the aforementioned airlines and look at the charters. We flew a charter down a few years ago, the prices were sorta ok but the most important thing was that mom actually liked them. (She said, the other day, "can we fly them again?" LOL) Just don't ask for the low-fat meal...ugh...

Ya - I thought it was a bit early to book for December but since they have so few options out there, we decided to book it. Then if something cheap hits closer to December we will take the $30.00 hit and get a credit for the new prices. I was afraid it might go up again since it has already gone up twice.

well, I'm planning to drive down to buffalo and fly out to Orlando...the price gets as low as $240 round trip tax incl CAD!....well, we have 5 people, that's at least $1000 in savings if the cheapest tix from Toronto is $450 lets say....!....extra 3hr drive and save $1000 is pretty much worth it....
