After WJ announced their changes yesterday, I also read they will be going ahead hopefully within the year with code share finally on SW, KLM and Air France:thumbsup2

I've read that Air Canada is making inroads with WJ's customer base. They sure have been hammering away with seat sales. I just got one that has Edmonton-LA for $88 and Edmonton-Tampa for $199 each way before taxes, but it's still a great deal. Nothing for Orlando in this one.

I've been hoping for the SW deal to get going for some time. I fantasize that we Albertans may yet have similar options that our near border friends have been enjoying these past years. :)

I got a smokin deal on WJ coming home from Orlando but will have to fly Delta on the way down:goodvibes

The "Changes" that were announced yesterday regarding Mr. Durfy stepping down has NOTHING to do with the SW airline code share deals... this has been something that has been in the works for some time, and is partly the reason for the changes to their reservations systems this last year (making them the same as other airlines, allowing for code shares)

The announcement yesterday has not changed their service, or business practices... there are a lot of exciting things West Jet have been working on behind the scenes for years now.... code shares etc. take a long time to finalize and bring to fruition... the "reward program" is one of the first steps... there are many more coming!

Good on you! Delta has had some surprising prices over the last while. My sister got a $419 (or close to this) return fare last Dec 21-30. It wasn't a last minute deal either- I think she booked in September.

It seems the seat sales lately are just to fill up empty seats through May and June. I'll be looking for deals after the summer travel rush for our November dates.:)

Um ok lol I never said it was. The SW code share talk has been nothing but talk for a long long time. I was not aware of the KLM or Air France code share until yesterday. The reward system is just another useless cc so far. Hopefully as they continue to add on to the reward system it will become more customer oriented. Their service will change and hopefully so will a few other things. Even though I have friends working for WJ I still don't fly with them often due to pricing and or scheduling and I certainly don't want to fly stand by on a buddy pass. I really want to support them as they are local but they price themselves way too high and then bring prices down to what other airlines are charging by calling it a sale.

Even with luggage fees Delta is still cheaper and the schedule is very decent also. I get into mco at 5pm with a 1 hour layover in Minneapolis:thumbsup2

Just an FYI, that West Jet's recently announced rewards program is NOT tied into a credit card. It is a pure frequent flyer reward program. You can go to their website to check it out. There is a credit card that launched as well, that will allow you to earn points faster, but it is NOT a mandatory thing. The rewards program is 100% separate.

I agree that West Jet isnt always the cheapest, but I find their seat sales great when they have them... I just find it takes stalking their website to catch the great deals.

we are going down in April and I got westjet down for $79 Calgary to orlando,

Sweet:thumbsup2 The cheapest I can find for my dates at WJ right now is 178.00:rolleyes1 We have purchased our tickets back but was going to purchase our flights down today. I really want to fly direct so I may bite the bullet and just pay it:hippie:

We will be using Airmiles with Visa. BUT the thing that gets to me, is when I google the ways to get there from Sask, the flights are bizarre. I mean for some, I am flying to Calgary, then to Toronto and then to Orlando or from Calgary to Denver etc. I do not like flying so getting from point A to B with the least amount of flying is what I look for :lmao: I won't fly Air Canada. So, hope they can put me on West Jet to some location in the USA. Has anyone flown Virgin airlines and if so, what was that like?

I would love to fly WestJet to MCO but this is the biggest problem with them when flying from YQR (Regina) - scheduling. Their scheduling will either take you to Calgary or Toronto and then have a 5 or 6 hour layover. Sometimes their flights are next day, in other words, arrive in Toronto at 10PM and leave the next day at 7AM. I can get on a Delta or United flight early in the morning and be at checked into my resort by late afternoon.

If or When their scheduling starts working out better then I would certainly consider flying with them.

I feel exactly the same way! We fly out of Edmonton and until WJ can match the convenience, we'll continue flying United through Denver to Orlando. Get up early, 2 and a bit hours to Denver, 1 hour layover (grab pizza), hop the next jet, and 5 hours or so later, you're checking into your resort. :thumbsup2

we are from edmonton and even with driving down to calgary paying to store the car it still was way cheaper
our total round trip for 4 of us was $1038 going on westjet nonstop and coming back on AC stoping in TO

I've done that math, too. The problem is that we are 2 1/2 hours NE of Edmonton so Calgary is a bit too far for us. I'll be watching WJ for our November trip, though!:)

we used to live in Fort St john so we are used to having to drive to go anywhere (you notice we measure it in hours not Km:lmao:)

:lmao: Yup, that's a real give-away, isn't it? Like walking past "Canada" in Epcot and having a CM yell out, I heard that "eh"! Some things just give you away.:)
