Hi – opinions and advice please, not for me but for my sister. :goodvibes

She has booked a two bedroom at Westgate Vacation Villas – doesn’t read these boards and so hasn’t seen all of the scary reviews on here – they have told her that she can walk from the resort to Disney??? :confused3 What is with that!

I haven’t told her of all of the reviews I have read on her, don’t want to burst her bubble as she is very excited to go. Do you have any advice I can pass along to her?

TIA :)

LOL! Walk to Disney from the Resort? Wow, people are funny! By all means she can walk to Disney but it would take a long time and she would be walking on a very busy street and freeway too leading up to Disney. Never stayed at Westgate, but have stayed at Windsor Hills and they are right next to each other. It is close to Disney, like 1.5-2 miles away, can get there by car in about 10 mins. However, walking would not be recommended, lol!

Oh, it looks like a Beautiful Resort when I drove by, just make sure she doesn't have to do one of those stupid siminars or presentation meetings to stay there, unless she wants to do one.

I know - one of the strangest things I have heard and my sister has been to disney before :confused3 She has even stayed onsite with me before and knows how big it is and that there is a little road called I92 ...

I am just afraid that if she believes that she will believe the sales pitch when she gets there...

Not sure whether just to keep my big mouth shut or try to warn her

We stayed there once and thought it was nice enough. Not our favorite resort in the area but no real complaints.

Somebody is seriously confused if they think walking to the parks is an option. I guess you could get to Animal Kingdom in 20 - 30 minutes, but I wouldn't want to try it.

Using Serberth Road from Westgate Disney property is close prolly 15 min walk an another 15 mins or so to get to the Ak (closest park) to the other parks better part of the day.

NOT a safe walk at all not even to disney property much less the parks

We have stayed there 3 times now (trade through II) I have no problem with the place other than the Wi-Fi is spotty and $$ for Wi-Fi. We did a presentation the first time there for 2 Universal tickets and is was no worse than any others that we have sat through. I like the place so I guess I am in the minority around here. Clean site and a pool and jacuzzi right out our back door.
As for walking to a park, good luck. I would not do it. However I can be in AK parking lot, with little traffic in less than 5 min using shortcut.

I really like the location relative to WDW---it's just north of Windsor Hills. She'll need a car, but it's super easy to get anywhere on property via Sherberth.

I've not stayed there yet, but from what I understand, the units are relatively well-kept and furnished decently. It's on my list of "sure, I'd stay there" places, though according to RCI's web site, not all of the units have a washer/dryer, so I try to look somewhere else first.

We stayed there last year and enjoyed the room and amenities, but the sales pitch we had to sit through was quite annoying. We had purchased a "rental" stay at Myrtle Beach and used it for Orlando. When we did this, we were told we wouldn't have to sit through another presentation. But in order to receive the full ameneties at the resort, they did in fact make us go through another sales pitch. It wasn't a full tour like the other one, but it took up valuable vacation time.

But the unit itself was great and we enjoyed their numerous pools.

I am worried that anyone who would think you could walk to Disney from the pedestrian Siberia of 192 could fall for the extremely polished and high pressure sales pitch that Westgate is best known for. If they seriously want to walk to Disney there is only one area that it is reasonable to do it from. The Cypress Pointe development which includes the two Cypress Pointe resorts and Westgate Bluetree is literally one mile from Downtown Disney with pedestrian friendly access (almost unheard of in any area of Orlando). Once at DD the Disney transportation system is free access to anywhere on the property.

As for Westgate it is a monster development, you can't get to much of anything without driving and the units are middle of the road at best. Very dated, 80's style, little or no updating done as they only want to concentrate on selling & new - little attention paid to what they already did.

We own there but we consider it our one real timeshare error in judgment. If we had it to do again we'd never purchase anything associated with Westgate. If you just want a sizable unit to stay in, avoid the sales group and don't care about the physical condition/style of the units and being isolated out on an island on 192 it's fine. If you want top quality and up to date features look elsewhere.

I own at The Westgate Blue Tree. They are alright, but they are all about sales sales sales, even to their owners. They are always trying to upgrade you, or something. The resorts are nice. I have never had any issues that haven't been resolved quickly. We went in 2008, we show up the Blue Tree, and we're told we're supposed to be at the Lakes, get to the Lakes, and was told that I was at the Blue Tree. They upgraded us to a 2 bedroom for our troubles. The blue Tree is right across the street from the Disney entrance, but not anywhere near the actual parks. She'll def. need a car.
