western vacation to suit all

looking to do a western vacation next june (2009), but trying to make the masses happy. My dad is hard to please, he likes rustic, hunting/fishing. My mom would be happy to be out of the house. DH wants to relax, and would have a DS age 6 to please. None of us have been on a western adventure before. I want a nice 4 star hotel that is basically all inclusive. Anyone have any ideas? thanks for any help !!

Have you checked the Adventures by Disney tours? They have a Southwest Splendors trip and a Quest for the West trip. Their trips are great for all ages. The schedules for next year aren't out until August though.

You may want to look in the Sedona AZ area. There's beautiful red rock scenery, hotels w/spa services, Oak Creek Canyon (I think that's the name, w/stream fishing), horseback riding, exciting jeep tours through rocky, scenic, natural areas (fun - DS would love it!), local crafts shopping... and you could add a couple nights up at a lodge on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, 2.5 hours away. Elsewhere in the region, there are plenty of options for visiting national parklands, ghost/mining towns, native reservations, museums, etc.

We stayed in a Flagstaff timeshare when visiting the area and it was truly a trip of a lifetime. Sorry I can't help with the names of specific hotel resorts or spas - but I recall reading about some, they're there.

You could give this place a shot. They get really great reviews. I learned about it from a family fun article years ago.

We just got back from a week in South Dakota. Absolutely terrific.

Drove from the east through the prarie to the Badlands, down through the Indian reservations and then back north through the Black Hills. Highly recommended. We went horseback riding, to a rodeo at the Crazy Horse Memorial, got stuck on the road surrounded by a herd of buffalo, went to Mt. Rushmore, went to Wounded Knee and on and on.

My DD, 4, can't wait to go back.
