Its a sad day for western supermare today the building at the end of the pier has burnt down during the early hours of the morning. Its the main holiday weeks and the main attraction is now closed. Luckily there were no people on the pier it doesn't bare thinking about if it had happened when it was full

I have many happy memories of time spent on the pier at Weston. Let's hope they rebuild and it doesn't suffer the same dreadful fate as the pier at Brighton. The neglect there and the total abdication of responsibility over its fate is criminal.

Thats so sad, I hope no one was hurt, it was only last week that DD was there for T4 on the beach.

That's terribly sad - any ideas how it happened..? I have some lovely memories of the pier as Weston was the first stop for DH and I on our honeymoon back in 1982... :sad2:

LOL Karen - I was probably there playing on the beach as a 9-year old while you were on your honeymoon :rotfl:

Terrible shame but thankfully no-one was hurt.Reports at the moment are saying deep fat fryers could have been to blame.x.

So lucky that no one was on it at the time!

I do hope it gets rebuilt though, it seems such a shame that all of their's peirs nowdays are left in such a rundown state. We were at Clacton the other week and the state of the pier there is shocking!

I am glad that someone posted this. I like Weston and was really sad this morning when i heard the news; i put on the TV then realized how severe the fire was. For me this was the main attraction in Weston, it will be strange to go and not be able to visit the pier. I visited the pier on many occasions as a child and carried on the tradition with my own family. My little boy is quite funny and if you asked him where he would want to go on holiday 'Weston' or 'Disney' it would be Weston every time! My four year old boy wanted to go and help put out the fire :sad1: He was quite upset, it was only a few weeks ago when the whole school went on a end of year trip, kids always have fond memories. I hope that they will rebuild it but with the economy the way it is at he moment, i don't know if it would be viable.
