Our excursion day to Xcaret had finally arrived. We rolled out of bed after an easy day yesterday, and did our usual routine of Topsiders for breakfast and the drink station to fill our water bottles. (We visited the drink station the most on our trip)
After going to the meeting location for Xcaret, we boarded the Ferry to the mainland and got a kick out of the people selling shirts on the way. He said $5 dollars per shirt, and on the way back $7.00 which got a laugh from everybody. We bought one for $2 tee hee.
They herded us to the bus for the 15 minute drive. We only understood every third word from our guide.
When we arrived at the Xcaret Ecological Park. Black clouds rolled in and thought Yipe. As we entered it started pouring rain, after 5 minutes it had quit and the sun came back out.
Trying to navigate through the Park at first is very tricky. We turned and went down a walkway that turned into a maze. Some people were just as lost as we were. (Frustration Level 3) It got to be a joke when we went down the same path twice. We saw a worker and asked Help! Where the heck are we and where is the snorkel area? He stared at us and acted like he had only understood every third word we said and pointed the way. We found the lockers and had our first fight of the day. I had forgotten our water shoes. So we hobbled to the first restaurant and found it closed for repairs (GRR. Frustration Level 8).
I stomped back to get our shoes, at least I was trying to stomp, in bare feet it sounded like slap, slap slap. I grabbed the shoes and got to do some real stomping.
We found another restaurant and had greasy cheeseburgers, oversalted fries, and watered down sodas. (Frustration Level 10) Why did we spend so much on this anyway? After lunch we collapsed on the beach and looked at the beautiful view (Frustration level 1-Enjoyment level 5) We snorkled and laid in the sun (enjoyment Level 10) until it was time to start heading back. We saw some aninals they had, climbed on the ruins and noticed the directional signs had mysteriously started making sense. As we arrived at the gate the skies opened up and rain. We got back on the bus dripping wet, but laughing. They dropped us off at the ferry.
Xcaret is overall a good excursion, just be patient at the beginning and trying to navigate: the signs are confusing.
We made it back to the pier and noticed the Spendour of the Seas was loading also. The lines to get back on both ships were beside each other, and we talked to a couple who said The Magic is a lot nicer looking. I then said Well , the Splendour is huge, but I bet ours is a lot noisier with all the kids. It was ominous walking between 2 12 story monsters tied up beside each other. I thought Splendour looked huge, but the Magic was 30 feet longer.
We made it onboard with about 10 minutes to go before dinner. We decided on room service and rest. TIP: Try the Room Service at least once on your trip!
We still had a couple hours left so we poked around Cozumel. We went into one store and in the corner a worker was swearing at us under his breath in Spanish. I understood what he had said and asked him QUE!) He kinda looked shocked and then angry as we left.
When we got to the Pier the Splendour was just leaving. When it was backing out we saw that some swordfish were escorting it.
We headed back and listened to the Mariachi Band for a while. We saw our navigator for planning the next day at sea: 2 deck chairs by the pool.
