Hi everyone,

I love to plan so as soon as our cabin was booked I started investigating into the excursions. Trying to pick out places and compare prices for our family. My dh and I are surprising our ds (6) and dd (4).

Tonight ds and I were talking about a friend who was going to Africa and out of the blue he says, "one day I would like to go under the water in a submarine and see all of the fish".

I thought, "oh oh" and said, "ohhhh, you would". I never even considered that as one of the excursions because I was being selfish and am afraid I would be closterphobic. I am not usually closterphobic normally but just the sight of a sub makes me squirm. I discussed this with my dh and he WOULD love to do it too. DD is only three right now but I asked her casually if sometime she would like to go under the water and see the fish and she said,"YAH! in a submarine and I could see the rock fish!" (I had no clue fish were so popular in my house.)

We are going on the Western cruise on the Magic and I know that there are different submarine adventures and Atlantis adventures at a couple of locations but which ones would you recommend. Guess I better start to change my way of thinking. LOL

I personally have done the submarine in Grand Cayman, and would recommend it. It is about a block and a half walk from where you will tender. It is much more cost effective to just walk there and book on your own rather than doing an excursion from the ship. I haven't done the one in Cozumel, but i have also heard good things about this one too. It is run by the same company, but i think it is a taxi ride from the ship.

enjoy! Your kids will love it!

BTW....the sub is supposed to be really big, fits almost 50 people I think....Its the perfect way to see all the fish and marine life underwater and you don't have to wear a mask and fins

if i remember right, it holds 48 passengers and three crew members.

Make sure your dds are at least 36 inches tall if you want to do the submarine and book early.By the time we decided that was what we wanted it was full.We did the semisub in Grand Cayman. The Atlantis one is right when you get off the boat. It was fun but small. I am claustrophobic too and had the same feers but I was fine.My dds 6and 7 loved it.We even took my 6 mos old ds and he was laughing and yelling at the fish.

We did the sub on the Western Cruise. I, too, was not comfortable going in the sub under water in that small space. It took a LOT of convincing on DH's part to get me in there. But you know what? Once we were down in the water and we saw those beautiful fish, I forgot about being uncomfortable and started to really enjoy the experience. I have a picture showing when we hit 120 feet!

I have to admit, it was a really good excursion (even if I had to be talked into it). I would recommend it.

At GC we did the sting ray city tour and that was super too! So I would recommend for the Western Cruise:

GS: Sting Rays
Coz: Sub

At Key West we didn't do an excursion, but if we ever go back, I would probably do the trolly tour. We talked around ourselves, but didn't get to see a whole lot. Did go to the 'Little White House' (that isn't far from the ship), and went in a few shops.

Have a great trip!
Debra

Thankyou for your suggestions! They are great and I am glad to know that there were others who went and were comfortable.

We are going to take the trolley in Key West. I would like to do the submarine in Grand Cayman. I noticed that there are three excursions with DCL. Do you suggest that we don't do those and just go through the company? When I looked on the internet last night I must have been looking at the same company that DCL deals with because the prices were about the same. Are there different companies?

In Cozumel we are going to do the Dolphin encounter.

I would love to save 40.00 on the submarine ride, so I will check into that for sure. Thanks again.:jester:
