Western Cruise- Excursions with a 8 m.o.??

We are taking a 8 month old on the western cruise. Can someone give me ideas on what we can do while in port that our son can do with us?

Shop, eat, go to the beach. Isn't there a babysitting service on the ship you could use instead of taking the baby on the island.
