I'm wondering what the weather is like at Western Caribbean ports in January. I know CC could be chilly, but what about the other ports? We are hoping to escape the cold and find warmth and sunshine :)

We've been on 2 cruises to the Caribbean, both in January. The first one (Cozumel, Cayman, Jamaica) was perfect...warm weather, water nice to swim in. The second one was just (un)luck of the draw. Water was ok, could have been warmer. We were on a different cruise line and our itinerary went to Belize, Roatan and Cozumel. It was in the 70s at Cozumel. Water was chilly. However, we're from Texas and that week it snowed and iced in Texas (this doesn't happen in the area where we live near Houston), so we were feeling the remains of the cold front. It didn't ruin our cruise, but warmer weather and sunshine would have been nicer. :)

I went on a January cruise in 2014 and the weather was pretty great. I think as the above poster mentioned, it can be luck of the draw. Costa Maya was a little overcast but warm, but in Grand Cayman and Cozumel, we had fantastic weather. The water was too chilly for me in CC but plenty of kids seemed to be in the water all day. On the ship, it was a little windy and cool at night but during the day, sitting by/in the pool was perfect.

Good luck! We're going on another cruise this January and hoping for LOTS of sunshine and warmth.

We've also done a Bahamas cruise in January and that was little too chilly for us Texans! Castaway Cay had beautiful weather, but the water was too cold for us to swim. There were plenty of folks swimming though. Caribbean is a little different than the Bahamas in the winter though.

Just depends really. We went in February and friends of ours went in January 4 weeks before us and we both had similar weather, warm and sunny! However dsis went right in between and had bad weather, not ruin your trip bad but just not as nice. I would say your chances are still good but el Nino I think will change things a bit this year. Out of 4 winter cruises we have had good weather on almost all of them.

We did a New Year's cruise two years ago and it was chilly the first day (crossing the Gulf), but HOT in Cayman and HOT in Cozumel. Chilly again the last day. By chilly, I mean jacket weather, but nothing "cold."

Thanks! We are from the Houston area as well :)

We are looking at January 2017 so hopefully no El Niño to worry about.

Thanks for your reply!

Sounds promising! Now I just wait for the next dates to be released. :)

For us (before we had kids in grade school), January has been ideal just because of the value! It's cheaper to cruise in January! Now we are cruising spring break or in the summer...$$$$.

BTW, we're actually in College Station. I didn't know where you were from, so it's easier to say the Houston area. :)
