Did anyone else hear about this?? I heard it on the weather channel about 1 hour ago....saying a building collapsed and people are trapped....supposedly the worst tornado in it's history.

I haven't been able to find anything else on it though. I think the city was Stamford????

Stamford is in CT. It could have started in Westchester and moved to Stamford.....

Here's the scoop, so far:

Tornado warning for Southwest Connecticut

From the National weather service.

A tornado warning remains in effect until 4:30 pm for southwestern Fairfield county.

At 4:10 pm the national weather service doplar radar continued to indicate a tornado. This tornado was located 6 miles southwest of New Canaan moving eat at 30 mph.

The tornado will be near Norwalk and 7 miles south of Wilton by 4:25pm.

The storm has already produced damage to buildings and winds of at least 58 mph in central Westchester county. This is a dangerous storm.

The safest place to be during a tornado is in a basement. Get under a workbench or other piece of sturdy furniture. If no basement is available, seek shelter on the lowest floor of the building in an interior hallway or room such as a closet. Use blankets or pillows to cover your body and always stay away from windows.

From what the news was telling us here (they broke into the shows) There is evidence of a tornado on the NY CT line on the New York side of the border. A water spout was spotted in the river from the Tapenzee Bridge and something about a building collapse. As of 5:10 the CT news has not reported on the building but did talk about the flood/storm/tornado.

I hope that this helps

Thanks for the heads up. My GF is visiting me right now and she is from Irvington, which is in Westchester County.
We haven't been watching the news at all.

I think the tornado was in tarrytown. I think they said it was a California Closet store that collapsed, but they didn't think anyone was trapped.

My GF called home. It was Sleepy Hollow and it was the Closet store that collasped.
Freaky weather so far this year! I hope that doesn't mean we'll be getting more hurricanes.

Thank God, noone was hurt :) , but lots of damage :sad2: . The brunt of the storm is in the mid-westchester county area (north of NYC), including Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow and Hawthorne. The California Closet Wharehouse was blown out. The walls are gone. The news showed somed trees down in Greenwhich, Conn., I didn't hear anything about Stamford, Conn. but I'm sure they must of had some tail end of it. NY has been having some crazy weather this year, a couple weeks ago I saw on the news about upstate NY having all those floods. I guess we just have to roll with the punches, which we are getting pretty good at. :grouphug:

The entire northeast has had a strange year. Floodings in NH & MA in May. (along with NY, NJ, PA & MD at other times) And on & off again in same area since then. Even yesterday, there were 3 suspected tornadoes in MA alone. Video of 2" hail in MA yesterday with size & intensity not seen even in OK. One was a confirmed / spotted waterspout. Not sure on the others yet. Constant back building of storms training over & over again on the same areas. We've had TONS of severe thunderstorms & so much rain it seems we are in constant flood warnings even if we just get an 1" of rain. Same pattern today.

Ya know, a hurricane wouldn't surprise me the least at this point.
