That's exactly what they are looking for. They WANT to provoke you, and then they will turn around and haul you to court (they are actually lawyers) and claim infringement of their First Amendment rights.

Well, I'm not actually suggesting we go out and kill them and I'm certainly not making any threats. I'm simply stating that sooner or later they will likely step over the line and someone will probably snap under the emotional stress they have caused. I wouldn't want to be around when the fists start flying.

Three people protested twice on my college campus under the name of the westboro (but i don't know if they were ACTUALLY associated, since they were such a small group) they were physically assaulted by students and has to be escorted off campus by police.

i've never seen a more hateful group. many students stood next to them, preaching out of bibles alternate messages that spoke of loving your neighbor, etc.

it was sickening to see people saying those things, and you could tell that they honestly believed it, they weren't just trying to incite a fight or anything.

Westboro was scheduled to protest against my college's performance of The Laramie Project. The school organized a peaceful support of the LGBT community on campus. Westboro never showed after advertising heavily they would be on campus.

I've had several "encounters" with this group. They are perhaps the most hateful people I've ever encountered, and I've seen nearly every protest in DC in the past 5 years.

That said, they are nothing more than an inbred family that spouts hate and lives off of publicity. They usually back down when they find out they will face counterprotestors.

Me too, they need to stop.

They want to be relevant so badly, but it just isn't working for them. I almost feel sorry for them. Almost.

I was arrested (by law, they had to) at my best buddies funeral at Arlington National Cemetary. I knocked out a guy who had the gall to verbally harass and physically threaten my friends widow, who was 30 weeks pregnant. This guy was a member of this cult, and had completely crossed the line. The guy didn't show up to court (no surprise there) and my charges were dropped. The judge outright said that he wouldn't have found me guilty anyhow, and said I wasn't the first person to do this, nor would I be the last. He said he'd likely find anyone in my situation not guilty.

They threatened to come to a military funeral here in the Syracuse area, needless to say they didn't show up.

If I ever have the opportunity to be around this group, I'll be sure to protest, form a human circle around them with my peers, surrounding them with positive statements in counter to their negativity. This will help dissolve their negativity from those they are protesting in front of and probably generate an incident where they must touch someone of the counter group to move, thus putting the first "punch" on them.

This is how they make a living. Another way is that they sue towns that won't grant a permit for them to protest.They then claim that the church is broke, the justice department has a "slush" fund that pays for legal fees in these situation. So Westboro lawyers bill the justice department. Yep, they have a legalized scam going.

These guys are just publicity seeking <insert one of many appropriate banned words>. Even talking about them is fueling their agenda. The best thing any community can do is stop reporting on their protests, stop giving them any thought or coverage, and ignore that they are even there.

It will be hard to do at a funeral for someone you love but it is really the only way to stop them. They don't care about dead soldiers, dead teens, or anything else. They care about the press coverage to spread their hate and propaganda. If they learn that they will not get it they will move onto the next target.

I live in a military town and about a year ago these whackos came here to do a protest. Or whatever they are calling it these days. The paper was using it for headlines for days. They did try to sue the city if I remember correctly because they were slow on the permit issue. It was advertised as being the biggest protest, thousands of believers were going to show up. They positioned themselves outside the military cemetary.

About 5 of them showed up, all women. It was supposed to be an all day thing. I think they lasted about 3 hours. It was so much of a nonevent, after all the publicity they got I was surprised. A group of wives stood across the streets in 'silent protest'. On that side of the road, the cars were beeping and honking. It was strange, the other side was DEAD silent and the cars were just driving slowly by. The five that showed up appeared to be two women in their 30's and 3 teenage girls around 15/16.

They are a bunch of whackos. Where exactly do they think they got the right to stand around on the corner with thier signs anyway???? They need to be deported to someplace where they can really be harrassed and sensored.
