Hi everyone,

Anyone who has booked a non-stop flight from Halifax to Orlando via West Jet...check your itinerary. West Jet no longer flies non-stop to Orlando. Man, am I ticked!!!! After booking these tickets for my family back in February I find out today we are scheduled to arrive 6 hours later!!!:confused3

Are you sure? What dates are you looking at?
They moved their direct flights (in December)from Saturday to Sunday and I still see those flights available..?

American cancelled my non-stop from Orlando to LA and now I have a layover.

They did have two other options for non stop, but I would either have to get up at 5am or not make it to DL until 10:30pm missing my only opportunity to see the fireworks.

It's super frusterating when they change flights. This is the first time it has happened to me.

New rules recently started for airlines if they cancel your flight
http://www.travelhotnews.com/reportages.php?sequence_no=39550

"Prior to these decisions, the tariffs of the three air carriers were more restrictive with regards to passenger rights. For example, when flights were overbooked or cancelled, the options for rebooking as well as choice for a refund versus rebooking was at the discretion of the carrier. As for situations in which a refund was warranted, the tariffs only provided for a refund of the unused portion of the tickets.

The new decisions will now increase the rights and remedies for passengers travelling with the three airlines.

In the event a flight is delayed, overbooked or cancelled, passengers can now choose whether they prefer a refund or to be rebooked. In certain cases, carriers must consider rebooking passengers on the first available flight, including flights with non-partnered carriers.

If overbooking or cancellation of a flight results in the passengers choosing to no longer travel, they will be entitled to a return flight home within a reasonable time, free of charge, and a full refund of the ticket price."

Here is another link about the changes. I noticed WestJet didn't have any information about these changes. I don't know how it affect you but WJ should let you pick your new flights at no cost, they broke the contract you didn't.

They had us departing on November 24th from Halifax at 3:45 pm arriving in Toronto at 4:43 pm and then departing Toronto at 8:30 pm arriving in Orlando at 11:16 pm. Our original schedule was booked to leave Halifax at 2:45 pm arriving in Orlando non stop at 5:47 pm. Very discouraging...I've planned the dates and departure times to coordinate with family travelling out of province. We're celebrating my parents 50th anniversary.

That's awful! I hope this gets fixed up for you! This is why I don't fly Westjet, they never have good flights for us to Orlando! ;)

Sorry to hear that :( So what does the new itinerary look like?

I received the message direct from West Jet via e-mail yesterday notifying me of the change. We booked back in February for a November 24th departure. The WJ reservation agent said they had changed their winter sched. She was able to change our flight reservation to the earliest flight in the morning via Toronto for the same day. We are now sched to depart at 6:00 am arriving in Toronto at 7:23 am departing Toronto at 10:10 am and arriving in Orlando at 12:56 pm.

It's nice to be arriving in Orlando earlier than planned, but having to travel through Toronto and being at the airport for 4:30 am instead of 1:00 pm really bites. I have to say the WJ reservation agent was quite apologetic and very accommodating.

I agree...very frustrating!! Being at the airport before the birds are awake is quite frankly for the birds...;) whether 4am or 5am just way too early.

gilsan, thank you for this information. It explains why the agent was so accommodating. I was able to rebook our flight to the earliest departure without having to pay another fee. Our flight cost $289 with the original booking. When I checked the new alternatives the earliest departure cost $459. Obviously with the new changes the carriers would prefer you to fly with them as opposed to cancelling and flying with the competition.

I had the same message, and the flights they offered are riduculous! Coming back they have us leaving Orlando at 7:00am and arriving in Halifax at 9:00pm! I'm traveling with 3 children, which why I chose the direct flights. If they can't change us to the direct flights on sunday, I'm going to ask for a refund! I can't see anyone choosing to be in transit for 14 hours!

That is horrible. Between situations like this and Air Canada's labour issues it's wonder any of these Canadian carriers are still in business.

I am glad you were able to get a better flight.

Last year we went to WDW with my parents. They stayed for an extra week and when they arrived at the airport the discovered that WJ had cancelled their flight and moved them to a earlier flight. They arrived to discover their new flight was gone.

It worked out ok for them because they were on a connecting flight original and on the flight they were moved to, but in the end were on a direct flight to Halifax.

West Jet has the worst times for flights to Orlando. Their prices are so high too. I got an email abot a 15% discount they are offering. I checked them and AC for the same dates and WJ with their discount was $400 more.

We booked with United with points back in December for a September departure to make sure we got good flights and were able to travel together! Throughout the spring they changed our flights so many times I was having a hard time to keep things straight. One change they made was to have us leave Halifax at 9:20am and fly to Philly but our connecting flight from Philly to Orlando left the same day at 8:20am, and their computer didn't flag it as not being possible!

The good thing about United is that I can change the flights and seat assignments online without penalties, so now I have better flights that I originally booked................for now!:thumbsup2
