West Coast sports rant

I am officially now on the East Coast sports bias bandwagon after last night's MNF game.

I watched the pre-game on ESPN. More than once they went on about how good the Eagles are despite their record. All but saying the Eagles had a good chance to win given the great players still left, especially the tough defense.

Then the Seahawks go on to spank them 42-0 and they are saying maybe the Seahawks are not that good, it's just that the Eagles suck. Both the Hawks offense and defense dominated the game.

Whatever... :confused3 Why even have West Coast teams on national TV is this kind of crap in the norm?

So networks can say they're not biased. :teeth: :teeth:

Seriously, anyone who honestly said that the Eagles had a "good" chance at winning last night is a moron. Did they have a chance? Sure, but certainly not a good one.

Of course, it helps if a couple players show up to play too.

At least you don't have to stay up past midnight to watch the game.

Part of it is that they have to hype the game, and I can't blame them for that. You want casual viewers to believe it will be a competitive game.

With that said, I know what you're saying. I used to be a faithful SportsCenter viewer, now I could care less if it's on or not. Same with Baseball Tonight, and some of the other programming. There is a definite bias for East Coast teams, and if you're in a small market forget getting any coverage at all.

I'm a WI sports fan, and the Bucks are off to a nice start. Yet their highlights are thrown in at the end. Or worse yet, they'll BEAT a team, but all the highlights are from the team that LOST. I'm sick of it.

It's not bias. ESPN HAS to say something to make this game appear competitive, otherwise nobody would tune in to watch that mismatch.

Given the Randy White celebration I was surprised how flat the team looked. It looked like every good Eagle from the last 30 years was there, and likely in the locker room before the game.

Yup - Cardaway - it's a fact of life here on the Left Coast. We've recognized that a long time ago. (current example in college football: Oregon & the BCS)

They could have wheeled Reggie White's casket out there and it might have had a better chance of tackling Alexander than most of the Eagles did last night. :earboy2: :earboy2:

ESPN has a definite East Coast bias. It was so prevelant during the World Series, that the news papers wrote about here in Chicago. You would have thought that the Red Sox were the second coming and the White Sox, who lead the division start to finsh, were lucky to be there. Chris Berman was the worst. Most people I know who are big Sox fans listened to the radio and watched the games with the sound turned off. I am a huge life-long Cubs fan and it even bothered me!

With commutes here in the Bay Area - not many people around here actually see the beginnning of a game.

Especially since the game was on ABC. Nothing like supporting the family. :teeth:

Yeah, they were ROBBED, it's true. Not usually a fan of anyone out there on the West Coast, but I like Oregon a lot. We'll raise a glass to the Ducks at our FIESTA!!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

I understand, but I don't think that is what was going on. I've seen that before, and because Sunday night and MNF are scheduled at the beginning of the year they end up with a few stinkers.

This went beyond trying to hype a bad match-up IMO. Seemed to be completely over the side of playing down the West Coast might. The same can be said for the Chargers.

If there is a explanation it would be playing to the majority of viewers. I can actually understand that, but then my question stands... why schedule any West Coast teams?

:rotfl2: (but actually I think they did better in that regard than other teams this year)

 I can't believe I typed Randy instead of Reggie. But the Eagles could have used Randy. ;)

The Packers layed an egg the night Reggie White's number was retired as well.

That's a Notre Dame thing, which is totally different and much more sickening issue.

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Hard to argue there. :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I guess the team that most would argue shouldn't have been in the BCS is Ohio State, since they had two losses this year. But considering those two losses were close losses versus the #2 and #3 teams in the country, I guess that helped a bit. I have to plead ignorant about Oregon, though -- aside from knowing they had one loss, I've never seen them play this year (not a lot of Oregon games on here in Ohio -- darn Midwest bias! :teeth: )
