I think there's been some confusion about the "Western itinerary." Of course, it's a Western Caribbean itinerary, not a West Coast itinerary. But this misunderstanding fueled the rumor of a West Coast itinerary.
About a year ago, DCL disclosed that they had a design team working on a possible fleet expansion. However, DCL still has not announced any contract with a shipyard. I question whether Disney's corporate office in Burbank is willing to commit to even a single additional ship (at a cost of $350-400 million per ship) at a time when the cruise industry has excess capacity. And currently, Disney appears to be very reluctant to make any new, major capital investments in Disney Attractions.
If Disney goes ahead with another ship, I think the West Coast would be a real possiblity, as least for part of the year.
