We also stayed there last October. Outside of the 2AM fire alarm, our stay was reasonably pleasant, though nothing to write home about.
Our room showed the wear of the peak summer business (peeling wallpaper, chipped paint, etc.), though nothing would be considered dirty. We had a resort view room, which was really nice.
The pool is nice, but small and would probably get very crowded unless you travel off-season.
The coffee shop is a step down from a Denny's but will do for a quick snack after visiting the parks and you don't care for a quality meal or much service. We didn't try the the "formal" restaurant.
For the most part, the staff was very accommodating and honored our request for a resort-view room, quickly exchanged a faulty room key (always get two keys, without exception, every West Coast Hotel we've stayed at has given us one bad one), and changing the channel to the Mariner's game on the TV at the bar when it was closed and my wife and daughter were sleeping in the room.
We will however, avoid this property at all costs. Their lack of response to the fire alarm that was pulled at 2AM, showed they were completely incapable of resonding to a disaster (think earthquake). During our entire ordeal, we saw only two hotel staff (on sitting on a curb BSing with a guest and the other on the phone at the front desk). There were a number of elderly people and families with young kids trying to make it down the stairs. There was nobody outside to direct guests to areas which would be safe to assemble.
We stayed at the West Coast Hotel in Victoria, BC in April of this year and got a totally different (much better) experience. Our experience in Anaheim could be an exception to what would be normal, but their inability to respond to an emergency and answer my complaint in a professional manner would prevent us from staying here again.
We'll be staying at the Hyatt Regency this October.
