Weren't there live swans at the castle?

Everytime we go to WDW we stand in front of the castle and have a discussion about whether there were live swans in the moat around the castle. Could have sworn that there were but its been so long since we've seen them that now I am not sure. Were the swans once there? If so, what happened to them? Thanks.

When my kids were little in the mid 1980's and we went to MK... I could have sworn there were swans swimming in the moat also. (I love to go into that area around the rose garden where the old Swan boats used to dock.) But now that you mention it on my trips last Mar. and this Jan. I didn't see any swans. I just remember seeing pink flamingos over by Adventureland.

I think people may have been throwing things at them. They did have swans around the castle and they also removed the flamingos at EPCOT at about the same time.

I'm not sure about the throwing things at them but they may have removed them and brought them to AK.

Oh my gosh I had forgotten all about the flamigos at Epcot - I know I have some pictures of them! Have to go look those up!

I remember the swans at the MK and the flamingos at Epcot.

Unfortunately, I can believe that people may have been throwing things at them. I also know that when we were there for our honeymoon in 1988, a little boy near us was teasing the swans and got bitten. He wasn't really hurt, but I can see that might have caused a problem if it happened often.

Last time I remember seeing swans around the castle, they had gotten out of the moat and were eating the flowers in the gardens. I always wondered if that was a constant problem and if that had anything to do with them being removed.
