That's the dilemma for most West Coasters - can't afford a Bahamas/Carribean cruise plus airfare.

DCL is playing this conservatively - they get to test the West Coast market without making a permanent commitment yet. This way if they lose money or don't get the booking level they want, they don't have to put a ship out here permanently (and lose money right & left). If the bookings go through the roof & they make a fortune, they can then commit to putting a 3rd ship out here.

In order to test this market they have to move the Magic or Wonder for a least a few months....the DL 50th celebration is just the perfect excuse for doing it.

Does anyone know what cruise terminal Disney will be using in California?

not sure - someone thought it would be the Carnival terminal.

Anyone have any idea what a "good" price for airfare would be?

I keep going back and forth on this west coast cruise thing. The price is the biggest factor for me. $2400-$3600 for a Cat. 12 for son and I.

Then airfare, park passes and hotel; can't go that far and NOT go to the parks.

I hope they'll be some discounts out there.

I dont blame you for being upset. It does stink for those of us who had wanted to cruise during that time period and now cant because of the change of itinerary. I had been hoping for so long now to finally do the 7 day for our 10th anniversary in the summer of 2005, but thats not happening. I did however finally give up waiting for the announcement and booked a 7 day for October. My kids will end up missing 4 days of school now, but on the good side, its a lot cheaper than cruising in the summer. ;) I hope things work out for you somehow.

Well for us to fly from Utah to Orlando the cheapest rate we can find is $350 per person round trip. There are 5 of us and our kids WILL miss 9 days of school just so we can cruise disney! The total cost for us flying out is about $1750.00 just for airfare alone. I know how it sucks so badly but I am so excited at the thought of me FINALLY NOT Having to pay 1750 but rather about 400 instead and only flying 90 min rather than 4 1/2 hours! I'm also really excited that the supposed announcement will be WHILE I am on the Magic after spending the total of about $8000.00 for my family of 5 and hopefully the announcement will be for me to be able to re-book on board for one of those sailings so that for ONCE we don't have to break the bank to fly to Florida! I feel for all of you that may have to for a SHORT period of time...but you HAVE been spoiled in the past to not have to do it whenever you want to go on a DCL!:teeth: :p

Folks from the north

u just need to search hard... and watch for Deals..and Sales...

We have been able to fly to Ca. for as little as $250.00

Average flight to Florida $200.00

I think The expense will be a little more But
u always have the option of doing Back to back Wonder cruises...

I really dont See the airfare as being a Vacation Breaker.

Here is what I Found when I did a search on Expedia.com

For flights to los Angels CA..

was just a little more expensive then Florida...

I don't think it's been confirmed yet, just a really strong rumor. It's expected to be announced on May 5th at the 50th anniversary. I'm torn between staying here (San Diego) and doing the west coast thing or go ahead and move back closer to home and go to FL for the cruise. I've already been to Disney Land/CA Adventure and have never been to FL. One upside to this is that my sister and family MIGHT be able to make the west coast seeing as flying to CA from Alaska is cheaper (not much though) than flying to FL. Most of the people making the cruise with me will be leaving from OK and TX which is pretty much right between both parks and most of us have been to CA. One thing I'm concerned about is what are the odds that the navy will be in port at some of the west coast port visits. I'm in the navy now and trust me, if the cruise pulls in at the same time as a ship (not to talk down about fellow shipmates), it might not be too much fun for the civilians. Since Mexico is only 18 to drink, you get a LOT of sailors that aren't use to drinking getting drunk and pretty much making fools of themselves. I don't know what it's like on the east coast cruises, if anyone has had problems with the military being there at the same time or anything. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of us that can behave appropriately but like I said, you get some that haven't been able to leagally drink start drinking and something could happen.

My daughter flies from LAX to Fort Lauderdale or Orlando for as little as $160 round trip, no stops..$220 no stops.

You have to watch the fares..and know when you want to go, and be prepared to pay when the good fares show up. The low priced fares disappear quickly.

My guess would be San Pedro, but then again it could be Long Beach, but I doubt it.

We were actually in San Pedro yesterday for a party - we decided to drive from SP to Long Beach after the party, along the ports to see if we could "guess" where DCL would "park" - well, after driving along the whole port area, I still have no clue where they'd "park" that ship, but the suspense is killin' me :hyper:
