I'm thinking about putting together a Disney World Photography Recipe book. My thought was to go through on an attraction by attraction basis and discuss ideas for shooting the attraction (what focal lengths, apertures, shutter speeds, camera modes, etc) with examples. Kind of like the how-to threads I did a while back. I'll also mix in a bunch of general shooting advice so that it makes sense.

The recipe approach will make it easier for people that want a simple way to achieve decent results. It can also serve as a jumping off point for people that want to get creative but don't know where to begin.

Assuming that I actually commit time to do it, I'll post it on disneyphotoblog.com, which is a domain that I just picked up. I might also compile everything into a big PDF or online book when I'm done. I'll post more about the idea if I'm still enthusiastic about it when I get home. I'm booked
almost solid with projects until Thanksgiving week, so it won't be any time soon.

I think this is a great idea. I look forward to hearing more about it. Thanks for sharing

A quick stat check...after 6 days at the parks we have taken 7,232 photos, video clips, and audio clips totaling a bit over 200gb of data. Yesterday I filled a 32gb card at the MK. Much of that was because I was doing 3 exposure bracket shots in spray and pray mode on some rides.

Don't let anyone tell you that it isn't crowded in October. I've been very surprised at how busy the parks are. I've also been very disappointed in the Touring Plans crowd calendar. Comparing different parks on the same day and the same parks on different days, their predictions have proven to be wildly off the mark.

The parks have certainly been busy recently, especially Epcot, but these crowds haven't really been out of line with wait time predictions, which is the basis of the Crowd Calendar: http://touringplans.com/walt-disney-world/crowd-levels

We were just at DL 1 1/2 ago and touringplans was way off there as well. I started using the Disney app instead b/c I couldn't base anything off of touringplans.

I didn't really understand this. At first I thought something had gone wrong and this lady was cleaning it up. As I set up the shot, I realized that this was intentional, although I still don't understand what the heck she was doing.

I haven't seen him around lately but I'm thinking that Kranberries guy, might have an answer for this.

The crowd level predictions didn't seem very accurate. At the same park on different days, the crowd levels would often be opposite (in relative terms) to what was predicted. The predictions just didn't seem to match up to my experiences.

As always, fantastic photos, Mark. You of course get great shots of Disney, but what is more important is all the great shots of the family. All the twisting and contorting you did paid off, and you will really appreciate these shots as the years go by. Sometimes I get so caught up in trying to improve my skills getting shots of Disney 'stuff' that I forget to take shots of the family. I'm sorry the boys seem to be outgrowing Disney. Thankfully, we have not hit that stage yet. I can't recall if you've taken the family to Disneyland, but maybe you could try that next time for a change of pace. California Adventure is a mess right now but when Carsland and the new Buena Vista Street are done, it should be a great improvement to this park. Oh, and a small side note about the Main Street Electrical Parade... it actually debuted at Disneyland in 1972, so it actually predates Spectro (so it's not really an update, as you were thinking). It being on the east coast has left us west-coasters without an evening light-based parade. If they plan to keep it there in FL, I wish they'd send Spectro over here.

As far as your recipe idea, do you want to try and do something forum-based like I did with MS? If so, I could probably help you out a little getting it set up.

I'll get going again fairly soon. It has been busy here. I did our Halloween shoot. I did two weekends of outdoor portrait shoots for 8 families. I did a couple more soccer games. I've got a school play next week that I'm prepping for. I'm also playing with some new gear (Cineskates and a Vinten Video Blue pan/tilt head).
