We've reached sunny Florida (wow what a different temperature than PA lol)! We are on out way to Daytona, then going to head to the overflow lot until we can check-in in the morning.

Side note though - My daughter pulled out the screw at the bottom of my day/night shade. I tried screwing it back in, but it won't stay. Any suggestions?

Congrats on the better weather and the soon arrival to the Overflow Lot. :cool1:

Keep us updated as you can, maybe at least where they put ya.

As far as the blinds go, I'm not real clear on which screw you are referring to. Is it actually out of the blinds themselves, or one of the brackets that holds the blinds or strings in place? Maybe a pic would help.

Hope that the blinds are the only problem that you have.

Try widdling a piece of wood with a pocket knife to a toothpick shape but obviously bigger than a toothpick and make it so it's a little bigger than the hole the screw was in. Jam it in there and brake it off. Put the screw in the same hole. The screw should hold with the new wood taking up some space in the paneling. It may be difficult if there is a hollow space behind the paneling but give it a try.

Stop at a store and pick up wood putty or wood filler and fill hole, wait a few hour then screw window shade back on.

Campingdad is onto the same thing that I do in similar situations. The only difference is that I use toothpicks. What you need is a small container of toothpicks, you can use round of flat, but I typically use round. Get a couple of them together and compare them to the hole until you have an amount that when held tightly together they will fit "very" snuggly in the hole. Take that bundle and put some wood glue on it to hold it together and pack it in the hole. Use a hammer to lightly tap it in snuggly. Let it dry completely, like a day or two. Take a heavy cutter knife and cut the sticks off even with the current wall, and replace the screw into the new fashioned filler you made out of the toothpicks.

I use toothpicks over match sticks because the toothpicks are typically not as brittle.

Probably be easier to wait til you get home to try and fix it, but if you got the supplies handy go at it. I used this trick on almost all the windows in my father's old camper and everyone of them held, you just have to be patient and let the glue set up.

One other thing, Campingdad did mention that the empty space between inside wall and outside wall may cause a problem. This could be true, and allow the screw to push out the toothpicks, this is why they must fit tightly. If they do not work, do not worry. You are a camper, you are bound to have some kabob sticks lying around. These bad boys are about a foot long and bigger. Take some and put them together until you have a bundle that will fit very snuggly in that hole. Put wood glue on them just like the toothpicks, especially the end that will be inside the wall. Insert them into the hole and push them in until you feel them hit the outside wall. You can lightly tap these as well to secure them in, but not too hard as to damage the outside wall. let them sit and dry and cut them off just like the toothpicks. This way they cannot push out because the outside wall will keep them from advancing any further.

Didn't think of the kabob skewers. Good one Tigerdad. Figured the toothpick would be too skinny. I am a carpenter and when we are doing trim work and a screw strips out in a door jamb or something we take a cedar shim and widdle it down, stick it in the screw hole and snap it off. Always works.

On my father's camper I found that the single stick like you are referring to didn't do as well in the paper-thin laminate that makes up most camper walls. I did however use your trick many times when I was building my house. My wife wanted different hinges for all the doors in the house, so I had to replace each none. 30+ doors later, you know that with 18 screws per door I had to do a lot of "plugging".:furious:

Sounds to me like it's time for a new camper ! :lmao:

I agree with Born 2 Fish - LOL

My DH used to pull a similar trick on me when wanting a new vehicle (in jest). He would put a couple rocks in the hub caps - then of course I would hear them and would be afraid of what that new rattle/knocking sound was.

His answer - afraid it's time to get a new vehicle, honey - I'm pretty gullible about car 'noises', but not quite that bad! ;)

Have a great trip!
