As some of you know, DH has been interviewing for a job in SE Florida. Well, our family just got back today. We decided to bow down and say "Thanks, but no thanks".

The job would require more travel than originally thought (2 weeks each month). There were a couple of smaller job negatives also. But I think if I had said that I loved it there and wanted to move, DH could have easily overlooked the negatives.

Although it's beautiful Florida (sunny and warm), and the mouse house is only a two hour drive, I discovered I'm still a northern girl at heart. I had a really hard time with Christmas music playing on the radio while we drove with the top down on the convertible we rented. :( And I think if we were camping a dozen times a year at Disney, I'd start getting a bit cynical about paying $2.50 for a bottle of water. ;)

But really, the area we looked at seems to be growing very fast. To buy a house with about the same sq. footage that we have now, and in a neighborhood similar to our's, would be quite a lot more money. The lower taxes would NOT make up the difference! LOL.

But the biggest reason? I have my family and friends here whom I love dearly. I think I'd be lost down there with DH gone two weeks a month. :(

Okay, enough of this. I'm going to start a new thread about who I ran into at the HM!!!

PS: I'm also scared of I95!!

Sorry to hear it didn't quite work out, but you seem happy with the result, that's what matters.:D

And Beanie the Meanie is still very cute.;)

We were at WDW last week and I know what you mean about hearing & seeing the Christmas stuff and yet you're in shorts. Feels pretty odd to this northern girl too.

My brother has lived in LA for many years and the change of seasons is on of the things he misses most about Ohio.

Glad you made a decision you're happy with and welcome home! :)

As long as you trust your gut feeling, you won't regret it. Moving to another state is a BIG step, take it from one who KNOWS!

BTW, if you fear I 95, which I don't blame you, do NOT come to Atlanta! :earseek:

Yeah, and that dog is a DOLL!!

I'm happy you had a nice time in Florida, and I'm even happier that you figured out before you picked up and moved that you didn't want to. You can always change your mind in the future and reconsider, but once you've moved, its VERY hard to pick up and go back.

You really do get used to Christmas music when the weather is still warm. I'm still afraid of I95. Made new friends after I moved here. But the most important thing to me is my dh is from here so I am too now.
Sorry you didn't like it but better to find out now and not later.

Is the job still open?:teeth: We'll go! Heading down in 11 days to see my folks for the Holidays.....glad you were able to make the choice that is right for you at this time, and it is nice that it is a CHOICE, some must relocate just to have emplyment.
We also have a Bichon, only he's quite a but chunkier than yours!

Hey Barb! :wave2:

I'm glad you have finally come to a decision. You were starting to hurt that hand of mine you were squeezin'!! ;) Just kidding...of course you can squeeze me anytime!

I do have to say that I'm a little disappointed that you won't be there when we finally move down next year. But, you're not getting off that easily! I expect to get together when you go down to visit the World after I move. :happy1:

Hey, Finfan -- maybe two Pam's can time share that job. ;)

Barb, you gotta do what's right for you. The decision to move away from friends and family isn't to be considered lightly. If it didn't feel right like it was something good and exciting for the family, you made the right call. I agree with the others, better to decide now than move and regret it immediately.

So, you missed out on your trip to Penang AND you're not moving to FL. I'd be disappointed in missing the Asian excursion more since you're at peace with your decision.

Come on, admit it... you'd miss the lake effect snow too much.
