It was an awesome trip with so many ups and downs, but still all worth it and I think soon we'll forget about the tough times and think more about the great times :rotfl:

Are you ready to hear it all? lol

We were meant to leave on the Monday. We had things planned to the hour of what we'd do. Breakfasts and which day in which park. We always start our trip at Disneyland and we had planned that being on the non early entry day.Well as you know, the flight was delayed for 12 hours, and then cancelled entirely. They booked us in for the next day which would make us lose 1 and a half days off of our holiday as now they were making us go through Sydney instead of direct from Brisbane. We had a 5 hour stop over at Sydney. It was a long time although the airport there is awesome. Not one of our family slept for longer than two hours and to make it worse, they had seperated us on the plane from the kids. ARGH I sat next to a farting stranger but fortunately had Shyne with me. The three boys sat by together without a grown up and dh was sitting completely by himself. I was so upset. We need an adult to be with the boys so we can help them out. It was a VERY long trip and if felt like we had been travelling for days.

We did finally get there and it was a relief to see the happy smiling face of our driver meeting us at the airport. We booked into our hotel, Best Western Inn and suites. It wasn't ready at first but after a while they got us a room. The room was fine and suitable for us.

We went over to the parks but felt like Zombies and after a few hours I had to go back to the room with Shyne (7) so she could have a nap, she was not coping well. We went back in for a while and played but came back fairly early to sleep. I don't have all the small details as I'd written them on my phone and on the last day lost it, but that will come later.
The next day was much better and we played and had loads of fun even though our schedule had been stuffed up. The breakfast supplied by the hotel suited us just fine.
On day three after breakfast at the hotel we went to play at the parks and two of the kiddies started to feel sick. We did a discover the magic tour for the kids and it was loads of fun but one particular child was not feeling great so I was worrying about that. Dh took him home after and another child started to feel unwell so he went home too. We had to cancel blue bayou which is my fave. :( They started vomiting and vomiting and missed the buckets everytime. I walked back into the hotel with hubby cleaning the bathroom floor of vomit. I sent him into the parks with one child as my oldest child had started to feel unwell. Hubby and Shyne had a great time but Jadon started vomitting, Corban decided to do one more vomit and leaned off the side of the bed and vomitted all over the floor. I cleaned that up and started feeling sick myself. ARGH such a horrible night and I slept on the foldout couch with an unwell child so that I wouldn't make hubby and shyne sick. We think it was from breakfast but fortunately for us we were all feeling a bit better although with tender tummies the next day.

This was the day we were moving to the Grand Californian. We caught a cab and when we arrived the greeted us and took our bags. We walked through that double sliding beautiful door and felt at ease and at home and as if our holiday was just beginning. They upgraded us to a premium view room and everything from then on was bliss. We were careful with how much we ate that day but still went ahead with our Minnies Breakfast. My mum and sister in law and nephew and niece arrived as well. We ate and ate and had a really great time. It was a hard slog dragging 10 people around the parks though. When we had days that we split up, 6 felt so easy. We bribed Shyne into going on California screaming as she'd been too scared to go on it but she wanted that cars blanket so much that she agreed. lol She LOVED it and it's now her favourite ride..

Little things surprised me like how much I enjoyed the little fantasy land plays, they were so funny. And that even with 15 days we didn't get everything done that we wanted to. We didn't relax enough at the hotel or enjoy our premium view enough. Only went swimming once and were busy busy busy the whole time.

We had arranged for an extra day at virgins expense because of how they stuffed us around, but this meant the flight home was with delta and also through Sydney. We got to the airport and they had us in completely seperate seats spread around the plane. Not one seat together. I fought and fought and finally got it changed to two two and two. The two older boys would be fine together but I hated that they'd be next to a stranger. This is where I left my phone on the counter when I was trying to get him to change it and also wrapping our cheap bags with packing tape because they were falling apart lol. Nightmare stuff. lol Once checked in I went to the counter at our gate and pleaded with the attendant to change it so we could sit 3 and 3. And he worked some kind of miracle and did it. Yay. I was just so happy.

So the beginning and end of our holiday were a write off but the middle made it so worth it. I will post photos when I download them :)

Welcome home - I'm glad the middle went well!

I feel for you on the seat issue - we had similar with American on our last trip, in the end the gate lady was able to at least get the girls with an adult! I'm glad you were able to get 2/2/2 at least, not perfect I know.

Cool on the upgrade. I'm glad that went well.

I'm glad you had a great time at least in the middle of your trip. It amazes me that airlines can split families up, especially when there are children involved. I'd be extremely unhappy at even my 12 year old not sitting with a parent for such a long trip, not to mention my 9 or 5 year old. At least you got to sit 3 and 3 coming home.

Wow, that is a holiday of ups and downs. How awful to be mucked around by the airlines like that. Even with the extra nights at the end paid by by Virgin, I think I would complain.

So pleased though that you enjoyed the rest of your trip. Looking forward to the pics.

Wow, what a rollarcoaster ride your holiday was Jacs!. I can so sympathise with the not having time to relax. We went for nearly 5 weeks this time, and we still felt like we were on the go the whole time.

What a horrible start for you guys. It must of seemed like it was just getting worse and worse:(

I am so glad that it got better for you all.

We experienced that problem with our internal US flights with Delta. They put all six of us in separate places. We discovered this a week before departure so gave them a call and I was on hold for ages to try and get them to do something. They explained that if I wanted to upgrade to other seats then I would have to pay for them. As all isle and window seats were classed in a higher rate and only if other passengers didn't upgrade then they would allocated seats to us. The trick to that was that they allocate the seat in alphabetical order and as our surname was W then we would get what ever seats were left. which meant separate seats all over the plane. I said I had children travelling, they said that children in the US travel alone all the time. I replied that I didnt care what other parents do, this is my children, they were in a different country and this was their first holiday that included flights and I wanted them near another family member. In the end they would not help but on check in the lovely assistant did some magic prior to boarding and we got 2, 2, 2 which meant that at least they had another family member next to them. I of course stressed the whole time.
I think the process sux.

I cant wait to see some photos.

Welcome back Jacs.

Glad that you thought it was an awesome trip; despite the upchucks in the trip. I hope that you and the family are all feeling better and that there are no lingering effects of what seems to be food poisoning.

Looking forward to seeing your pictures. I'm sure they are as amazing as they always are. :goodvibes

Qantas did that to us too - wanted the 5, 8 and 10 year olds sitting separate from Mum. Mum's response was simply to say, 'oh, that's fine! I feel sorry for the person having to sit with them and the staff member who'll have to look after them, but I'll have a fantastic flight all by myself!'. Funnily enough, they were quickly able to find 4 seats together after that!

Glad your holiday ended better than it started!

I love it! :thumbsup2

Sorry you had some less than magical moments on your trip. That's just ridiculous that airlines will split up families like that :sad2: If I was sitting next to a child (or pair/group of children) who were separated from their parent, I would find out where their parent was sitting and offer to swap. More for selfish reasons than anything else :lmao:

Glad to hear you got some pixiedust: at the GC, and that most of the rest of your trip went well :goodvibes Looking forward to reading about all the details and seeing the pics :thumbsup2
