After all the panic we did get away on time.
Had a good time overall, stayed at the Kyriad first night and wouldn't hesitate to book it again over the Cheyenne or Santa Fe, kettle in the room, complimentary welcome pack of coffee tea and biscuits, wifi in the hotel, stacks of TV channels and despite what I'd read, friendly knowledgeable staff.
At DLP I forgot to ring to request a room near the park, but we got one anyway in Sundance and it was ready at 10.00 am in the morning
Spookily, well I thought it was, everyone else said it was just coincidence we had room 1038 in both the Kyriad and the Cheyenne !
Room at the Cheyenne had new TV, still very limited channels though and a digital room safe
25 euros (refundable) to hire a kettle
Heating in the Cheyenne rooms goes off in the morning and doesn't come back on until 6.00pm, normally not a problem, but I was poorly with a heavy cold and chest infection, so we weren't staying out all day, reception did say they'd send someone out to change the setting for us, but didn't.
I think it was a mixture of staying at HNY earlier this year combined with seeing the higher standard set by the same star rating Kyriad hotel, but Cheyenne really didn't do it for me this time.
Cast members - once again couldn't fault any of them, at check in I requested 7.00 am breakfast slots, by the end of the day, I felt so rough, it didn't seem like such a good idea, so I went and spoke to a very lovely lady, who swapped them to 8.30, she was so nice that I asked her if there was any chance of GMF breakfast coming up during our stay, there weren't any at all at check in, she said she'd see what she could do and then rang me in our room an hour later to say she'd sorted one for Sunday for us at the Plaza Gardens, she'd left a note in the VIP book for her colleague for me.
Also have to mention the lady taking the breakfast tickets who was lovely and so funny, we didn't make it to breakfast until 10.00-10.30 any morning, so had to apologise for being late, she said we were very lazy and she would have to come and get us in future.
Food prices - OMG !!! last time we went I had the free dining offer, the time before that I had pre-purchased the HB vouchers, what a shock to the system this trip was - our highest food bill 158 euros at the Steakhouse for 3 of the cheapest steak and chips, 1 burger and chips, 4 desserts and 2 soft drinks each for the boys, add to that 32 euros for 2 pints of lager and 2 mojitos, believe me Rob will never complain at our bill and Frankie and Benny's again !
Found a little gem today though in Colonel Hathi's, can't believe we've never been in there before, 12 euros 30 cents for a large pizza, salad bowl, magnum icecream dessert and a large soft drink, the best value for money meal we had during our stay and it was very nice.
New Stuff - Toy Story Playland Fantastic theming and we loved the parachutes, Slinky dog a bit too tame, me and Liam rode it but felt a bit silly, RC Racer, I didn't feel well enough, the boys didn't want to and Rob wouldn't go on his own.
Capt EO, we watched it, it's more than a bit naff, but when you're cold and wet it passes half an hour, Liam said he quite liked it and the effects were better than I was anticipating but the the storyline is dire, a must for MJ fans, don't let me put you off.
MNSSHP - It was absolutely freezing so we put as many clothes underneath our costumes as we could fit, got some really strange looks walking to the park, Jamie felt really uneasy as there weren't that many people dressed up and he ended up taking his off, Liam had a ball in the Phantom costume we made, he even had people taking his photo outside Phantom Manor, 1 family wanted him in their photo and naturally the CM's made a fuss of him.
Capt. Jack was the funniest though, he did a funny double take jump and said "I thought I got rid of your lot in the first film !"
We didn't watch the MNSSHP shows, the rides were too amazingly empty to miss, we were the only people on Snow White at one point. Frontier/Halloweenland was amazing but the dry ice played havoc with my chest and I was very poorly that night, I coughed constantly for hours, not even my inhaler stopped me, but it was worth it, we had a great night and we stayed until the end to watch the Cars Calvacade.
Crowds - not too bad Thursday and Friday, but Saturday and today absolutely incredible, I had to queue at Buzz and BTM to get Fast Passes, wait times were longer than any I've seen before, luckily we'd already done everything we wanted to.
Given recent bad reports on park maintenance I found myself looking and to be honest you don't have to look too hard, even Rob, who I always assumed takes no notice whatsoever remarked on the amount of effects not working.
POTC for instance swinging pirate totally missing, mayor not coming up and down out of the well, dog not moving, sword fighters totally out of time, infact 1 had hardly any movement at all.
Don't get me wrong it didn't spoil our trip but it's sad to see.
Overall we had a nice time, we didn't rush around like mad things, we didn't do EMH and we actually left the park before it closed, but most of that was down to my not being well. Feeling better for the first time tonight, so guess that means I do have to go to work tomorrow, so better start unpacking.
Wish me luck off to see if the glass baubles I bought are still in one piece.
