We're here! Probably not a trip report

Fun first day and I am with the crowd that you cannot beat WPE for the best Counter Service deal.. .the food is so scrummy!

I find DTD always that busy on a Saturday night and avoid driving there like the plague!

Hey does anyone know how the boats run from OKW to DTD is it worth using this service?

Your net connection sounds good although I have to admit you lost me a bit on some of your tech speak around the iphone etc. I have a netbook in my Owners Locker for when I need to use flash sites but in the main I just use my iPad for emails, Facebook and Forums so I continue to keep my fingers crossed that the connection doesn't frustrate when we are there.

Mmmm WPE macaroni cheese is scrummy!

Glad to hear better reviews of the net, I am not bothered about watching movies, its only to be on DIS and upload photos. Karen and Matt use it more than me so will see how we go. After the bad reviews I have been looking into buying a SIM with unlimited data for 30 days but no reponse from the seller when I asked questions, I expect it to be so much data at a fast speed then drop to slower speed unlimited but sent message Monday with no reply so not buying it.

WPE takes the award for best value IMO, the meatloaf sounds great, not tried that. 2 weeks and I might just try it.:goodvibes

we were all set to rent a SIM for DD that would have provided unlimited data, voice and SMS as well as a local phone number for people at home to call them as a local call - all for $144 for 33 days - really a good deal we thought...
but just as DH was ordering it, he mentioned Alaska - turns out this particular SIM doesn't have coverage in alaska where DD will be for the first 2 weeks.
So we couldn't go with that deal. Shame as it sounded like the perfect solution.
and when we checked the company where we rented iphones last year, the price was just too high for her 33 day stay (would have been $570 for 33 days )

so in the end, we're just getting her a package from our mobile phone company - $150 for 30 days - 400 minutes of voice and SMS, but no data..
so they'll just have to make do with wifi when they can find it to read their email.

Its a great service but when DW is dressed for a meal she prefers to get in the car rather than take the boat. We have a few meals at DTD this time now many are on DDP, I expect it will be by car for most but will try take boat at least once.

so i was just reading the info about using wifi in disney hotels and it seems that unless you have an american carrier, you can't use the wifi in the room.

this is what i found:
To connect to the network using a wireless-enabled device (e.g. laptop, cell phone, etc.), look for the network option labeled "Guest – Access (unsecured)". Once you click on that option, you'll be taken to a screen that prompts you to accept the terms and conditions. After accepting the terms and conditions, you'll have Wi-Fi access free of charge. For cell phone users, cellular carriers covered for the free Wi-Fi are AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile and MetroPCS. If you have trouble connecting to the complimentary Wi-Fi, contact Walt Disney World Telecom at 407-827-2732.

so i guess that means that DD won't be able to use wifi on her iphone? i am now officially confused!!

I assume that's some legal nonsense imposed by the carriers as they all want their name in the terms however it will work fine, wifi is entirely separate from 3G and one has has no way of knowing about the other so it will work just fine.

thanks! i hope it works for her. i can't get her any special SIMs so it will either work or not. :)

She will be fine to use the WiFi - We have connected our UK phones to the Disney Wifi before.

I hadno problems connecting an iPhone and an iPad to the wifi at SSR in February, signal was strong enough for general use, uploading pics to facebook, sending pics on whatsapp and using Skype to call home

I think we landed at 5:30 and were sat on the sofa in the villa by 9:00 so 3.5 hours!

Not all immigration though, just lots of cumulative delays.

.

Thats not so bad then.

We love to take the boat from OKW to DTD. Its one of the reasons we keep staying in that area of resorts.

Glad you enjoyed WPE. I keep going to try the Meat loaf but I love their pizzas and pastas. So looking forward to eating there soon.

DTD is always the busiest at the weekends even during the day the car parks are crazy busy.

Thanks for your posts, great to read....

You're not doing too badly for 'probably not a trip report'... ;)

Well, I wasn't too sure I had anything to write but as I love reading everybody else's so much and I wanted to answer some of the geek questions so that people can search for the answers in future I just keep coming back!

Yesterday was an absolutely packed day.

We had a reservation for Teppan Edo in Epcot so headed there for around 10am, we hate going much earlier as it's weird only half the park being open. Daisy went on Mission Space which was a first and loved it but had I known that a) the signs around Epcot showing queue times showed the green (non spinning) queue i.e. 10 minutes, rather than the orange queue which was 40 minutes and b) a Brazilian tour group arrived with fast passes or a special ticket or something and were all let on in front of us! More about tour groups later!

Lunch at Teppan Edo was phenomenal, we've had odd Table Service meals before but it normally ends up the "safer" options due to having DMIL with us who isn't adventurous or fussy kids. Yesterday we just ordered the kids shrimp and chicken respectively and they just ate it (except Daisy who appears to be a vegetarian by genetics), Poppy loved it and they both loved the "bonkers" chef. It even had me thinking I'd cancel another reservation to go back but I'm beginning to think we'll be back next year.

I really thought the rigidity of DDP and forward booking for 2 weeks would be a killer but so far we've loved it, rather than wonder aimlessly we've known where and when we're eating and everything else fits around. I don't think we can afford the 2-bed next year as we'd like to bump back up to 3 weeks but can see us coming back on this deal if it's still offered so trying to mentally picture this 2-bed cut in half!

After lunch we got far too hot, so hot we didn't make it to Paris for Champagne which is a 10 year first I have to say. Since last years fiasco of broken arms -> ulcer -> psoriasis (sorry for being graphic lol) it now seems I can't drink a drop without my skin going red and itchy which is really rubbish as I really like a drink. I digress, so very hot and bothered we decide to go for a first pass at Premium Outlets, I'm not really sure what I'm after and we've stopped getting the girls many clothes as they tend to get into a mode of just saying yes yes yes when we ask them if they want clothes then not wearing them at home. Better in Next or M&S at home were they can do the same but we can take it back! DW manages to choose enough to use my coupon book voucher in Tommy Hilfiger which was good.

A bit of rain fails to clear the air but makes it so muggy you can barely walk through it so we head back to OKW. I'd promised Daisy we'd have a late MK if she's good and starts looking after her sister, Poppy is getting tired and DW has a headache so we get ready and head out on the bus (a first) to MK just in time for the Electrical Parade. We've still barely ventured out of Fantasyland and ridden pretty much everything multiple times. I love late night trips as there's just no queuing to speak of. Went to Pinocchio's Village Haus for Macaroni and a flat bread which I definitely prefer to the old deep pan pizzas but more cheese so probably not very good for me! We finally head home at 1:30 am.

I can't believe that was only our second full day.

Finally, tour groups, they were a serious issue in Epcot yesterday and I do think Disney has to get some control over their behaviour. This isn't anything to do with race, I dread to think what 60 16 year old British girls would be like if they came in large groups so it's just the sheer volume and the excitement factor. From queue swarming to restaurant filling to marching in long lines chanting and singing loudly it just ruins the atmosphere for us a little. They are obviously good for Disney and I'd rather kids were being rewarded with trips to Disney for a good school year than being ignored and hating their school but the must be a way to reduce their impact on other guests.

Wow, marathon post. Today is an easy day in theory but because I never take time off work and we're only here for 2 weeks (sorry that sounds greedy) I'll probably make everyone go out at some point, besides they've got the whole summer off when we get back. I've noticed HS has late EMH tonight and not been on Toy Story Mania since the first year it opened so tonight might be a good night.

Bye for now, Andy

Glad you are enjoying DDP, we never imagined it would suit us, we never planned a meal until trying DDP. We were amazed how much we liked it, now doing it for the 4th time this month.
When we tried Teppan Edo we went back to the room and cancelled The Wave so we could eat at TE a 2nd time. Although we still enjoyed the 2nd visit it wasn't quite as good as the 1st visit, I would leave it til next year if I were you.

I have never been short of things to write for a live report, people like to read about anything related to your trip, doesn't matter if its about food, crowd levels, tour groups, weather, its all interesting when we are stuck here in the rain(yes its bouncing down again)

Enjoy your easy day. :goodvibes

:)Glad to hear its all going well. I noticed over on the US side of the boards there were a few live reports saying the tour groups were causing problems.

Obviously the groups are always present but there were 4 distinct groups yesterday, almost all girls and very vocal. At one point the whole of the main walk up to world showcase was blocked while they all posed for group photos meaning we had to stand in the sun or go back the way we came. I think it's the organisers that need some help, maybe Disney should acknowledge that these groups bring in a lot of money (assuming they do) and allocate a CM to assist/escort them and make sure walkways stay clear etc.

enjoying your TR..:thumbsup2

Feb last year there were loads of tour groups and it was hell. They totally spoilt our last evening at MK watching the fireworks etc..the noise they made was just so inconsiderate when everybody else were trying to listen and watch. we have been June/July time when the Brazilian groups have been there and they were a bigger problem then the ones in Feb. It was one of the reasons we wouldn't go again at this time of the year.

Loving the reports, we have a 2 bed this year after staying in a one bed last year and i love okw

know what CMs call July at WDW?
taco month - of course they're not supposed to share that with the general public, but that's what they call it..

July and all those 15 year old brazilians is a problem..

and you're right, it has nothing to do with the fact that they're brazilian, it has to do with the fact that they're a very large group of 15 year old kids with minimal supervision....

individually, they're mostly quite sweet and well behaved, but en masse, they're very loud as any large group of 15 year olds would be...

fortunately, last year we were there in August, when the tour groups were few and far between....

teppan edo - i completely forgot to do the ADR for DD....off to the disney website!! :goodvibes
