In addition to our WDW in May, we've now bitten the bullet and are going to London in August for a week. Had to book my week off quickly as my main 2 weeks are in May and many people are booking their main holidays for the school summer holidays.

Booked a Travelodge for £29 per night so it's a good deal and we know the hotel.

Have already seen Wicked but have booked it again *** we love it - but can you recommend another show (needs to be reasonably priced seats) - our Wicked ones are only £20p.p. and we've sat in them before. We wanted to see Oliver but they are coming up at £60 p.p. and all the best seats are gone. We wondered about Mamma Mia or Hairspray or something like that - Billy Elliott will have finished and so will Lion King (according to Ticketmaster)

We are also wanting to go to a few attractions - done some stuff (have been there on a break twice over the last year or so) The attractions we are thinking of trying this time are

Tussauds
London Zoo
Chessington (on the train from Waterloo)
Maritime Museum
Imperial War Museum
Sherlock Holmes Museum
London red bus tour

Anyone been to any of these?

As you can see, doesn't have to be a Disney holiday where my obsessive planning mode kicks in.

If you've no kids with you I would recommend Avenue Q, we watched it in NY its hilarious, but not for Children.

We loved Imperial war museum, bus tour and zoo. But found Taussauds completely overpriced.

we done the London red bus tour great way to get around and learn alot about Londons histroy
DH loved Tussauds I found it boring

My parents just went down in November and didn' t prebook tickets, they just went to the theatres and booked on the day.

First they saw Sound of Music which they really enjoyed, they were 5 rows from the front in the stalls at a ticket price of £20 per person.

Next they saw Hairspray which they didn' t enjoy, they were in the balcony near the front, at £20 per person.

Apparently the theatres were not busy but this may just be at that time of year. They were really pleased at the price as they had been quoted similar prices as yourself for advance booking.

Another vote for Avenue Q if you're not visiting with kids... ;)

Also Rowan Atkinson is Fagin in Oliver! starting soon which might be worth a look...

The National Maritime Museum and Royal Observatory in Greenwich are worth a trip. I'm at Uni there and the grounds of the Old Royal Naval College are lovely to stroll around too...

The Transport Museum is in Covent Garden - in itself a cool place to people watch...

I agree that madame Tussauds is over priced - but if you can get a discounted ticket it can be fun.

Billy and Lion King will both still be running at that point... ticket master may not have an allocation yet. However I would be suprised if you get cheap tickets for them at the moment.

You will get a good deal on Avenue Q - but all people have to be above 14 years old to get in.

We Will Rock You often has some good deals on tickets. If you call ticketmaster and ask for the "dvd offer" you can get tickets for about £27 each. its a great show and my friend is playing the lead part :)

Hairspray I would think you would get a good deal on, as you would with Les Miserables or you could just go to the Tkts booth on the day and get tickets to whatever you fancy! Billy and lion king you wont manage to get though from there unless you pay full price.

Mamma Mia is totally fantastic, but is still quite expensive.

Blood Brothers is also a great show (have seen it 4 times:) ), and it is reasonably priced as it has been running so long.

Another vote for Avenue Q from me!

Thanks for all the replies - another poster mentioned that this is for 14+ - my DD is 14 (but not very worldy-wise) and I just wondered whether this would be suitable.

well it contains a LOT of F words... and puppets having sex! also lots of songs about racism, being gay and making lots of noise whilst making love... plus lots of other non pc things!

It is hilarious but you would need to feel comfortable with her seeing those things!
i think she might be shocked.. hey.. i was shocked the first time i heard the cd! :)
