Or at least one baby. There are lots of Mockingbirds in our neighborhood and I noticed a nest in the orange tree out back about 2 weeks ago. They've been working on but it had remained empty. That is until today. I very gently put one finger in the nest (I can't see the bottom of it as it is about 6 feet up in the tree) and I felt an egg!
Despite dragging a step stool out to try and see what was in there, I couldn't so I used a mirror to see into the deepest part of the cup shaped nest. There was one solitary egg and a pair of VERY unhappy Mockingbirds screaming at me to be gone.
I found this photo online and this is pretty much what it looks like except there are four eggs in the picture.
The eggs normally hatch in 14 days so, with any luck, we'll have some babies soon.

We get them each year right on our side porch. Mama bird always lays her eggs in one of our hanging baskets and we're able to watch the progress. It's always a sad day when we see the baby birds leave the nest but I *think* they're the ones returning each year to the hanging basket.
