Were Disney Mugs Ever Re-Fillable Forever

I know it's not the case now. When you buy a mug, it's only good for your length of stay, but has it always been this way? If at one time, you bought the mug and Disney said it was good forever, when did this change? No fighting or sarcasm, please. Just curious as to the real answer.

When we first went to POR in May, 2001 the CM who sold us the mugs told us they were refillable forever, any time we stayed at POR. However, it's too much trouble to pack mugs to take with us anyway, so we always buy new ones. I have quite a collection of resort mugs!

I think they changed the policy because they did not think so many people would keep bringing their old mugs. Also some people were abusing it by buying the mug at one resort and going to another resort.

Do you know when they changed the policy? I guess it was after 2001.

I think the change occured even before 2001. One of the big pluses to buying the mugs when they were first introduced was being able to use them "forever" - especially for those of us who tried to make at least one or two trips each year.

Since my boys - and husband - really liked the mugs, I'd always throw them in the suitcase so they would have them for each trip. But when we returned to the Contemporary 5 or 6 years ago, my husband immediately noticed it was a new mug design and the sign now said "good for the length of your stay."

We spoke with the food court manager and he agreed to honor our "refills forever" mugs - then he offered to exchange our old mugs for the new ones.

Hmmm, old mugs that are good forever or new mugs we can only use for a few days???? It wasn't a hard choice and besides, we liked the old design much better.

During the next few years we stayed at the BC and YC and did not buy their mugs because they are such a hassle to refill. Since then, we have stayed mostly at the Swan because of the great discounts and the Starwood perks.

But I'd be very interested to see what would happen if we stayed at the WL or Contemporary again and brought along our old mugs. I guess they wouldn't let us use them - even though when we bought them we were told we could "use them forever?"

In Oct 2001 we bought 3 refillable WL mugs that are good forever
and yes DS & I will be returning with them - brought them back Oct 04 also
We will buy new BC mugs when we switch over to that resort

When buying our second set of mugs at POR in 2000(DXL then) we asked and were told they are good for life and that we should have brought our old ones back. In 2001 we purchased new mugs at ASMO and when paying for them we were told they were good for life. We didnt even ask, the CM just offered this info to us. I would say at some point they were officially good for life, just dont know when the policy changed...some time after 9/01.

When we bought our mugs at WL, a few years ago, we were told they are good forever and were even told if they broke, bring them back and they would replace them at no charge. No kidding.

yep when I bought mine I was also told it was "good for life"
