We arrived at DLR about 1:00 Sunday, 8/10, and checked out at noon on Friday, 8/15. Some observations:

Crowds I thought that the parks were pretty busy, but nothing like previous summers. The longest line we waited in was 15 minutes. The longest lines I noticed were 60 minutes for TSMM and Indy, both mid afternoon. Not once, in the five days we enjoyed the parks, did we make it by park opening, either (both DH and DD completely lied when we were planning the trip and said "Sure, we'll get up early," then they both turned on me like ferocious wolves when I suggested setting the alarm. Sigh. . .

Weather It was sunny and beautiful every day, but a tad warm. Or, strictly speaking, humid. On Thursday, our last park day, we wimped out and took a cab back to our hotel--the cabbie said that it was unusually humid that week.

Hotel We stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim, for points. We picked this hotel over the other two because of the shuttle. We were very, very pleased. And to put our pleasure in context--this was the first family trip where we had not coughed up the pint of blood necessary to stay at the GCH. The free shuttle was prompt and efficient. We only missed it once, and just walked a few feet further for a $6 cab ride. The room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable. I have heard that the bathrooms are "tiny;" which is not accurate--they are as big as a typical secondary bathroom in a normally sized house. There is a convenient deli that serves drinks, hot dogs, and deli sandwiches, as well as cold bottles of beer and wine. The pool area is very pleasant, with a nice, large pool and ample loungers and shaded tables.

Parks I noticed more characters and street performers this trip. The only real disappointment was the house thingie in Innoventions.

Food The food was ok--we enjoyed the breakfast at Cafe Orleans twice, and were able to walk up and be seated immediately at 10:00 each time. The buffet at Storytellers, although fine, was not as good as it had seemed previously--this was our "Splurge" dinner and we wished we had "SPLURGED" for Napa Rose. We ate more Disneyland counter service this time around and enjoyed it--especially the breakfast at Tomorrowland Terrace. And corn dogs. However, I think the food at California Adventure was of poorer quality than we had had before--I was violently ill after eating at the Mexican place there.

Thanks for sharing. Glad you had an enjoyable trip.

I travel with a bunch of those who refuse to get up early. I have finally given up! I tell them if they want to go that I am leaving at such and such time. If they want to go they get up and if they don't... they can meet me at the park later. Even worse is that we travel in the off season, so the park opens at 10:00 and the lazyheads still think it's too early!

Wow! 15 minute waits. That must have been nice. I bet Peter Pan didn't stay that way long. I have never seen it that short! Of course, that because as I mentioned above, we usually don't get to the park at opening. :sad2:

Thanks for the warning about "the house thingy". I vowed last time that Inoventions was so boring and such a waste of our time that I would never step foot in there again but... since they had put something new in I was weakening and thinking I might need to give it just one more chance. Thanks for snapping me out of it!

Too bad that some of your food experiences didn't meet your expectations. We always enjoy the food but that may be because we are usually straying from our diet which tends to make everything taste better!

Glad to hear that the lineups were not long for you. I remember eating at the Mexican place last year at CA and I didn't get sick, but I certainly wasn't impressed either.

thanks for the TR! i always enjoy reading these:goodvibes and im glad you all had a great trip. i have a question...did they already take out the mc donalds fry cart?? ill be so sad if they did! lol

We loved the house at Innoventions! Just today our boys asked if we could plan a whole afternoon there (downstairs in the house and upstairs in the exhibits) on our trip in December!

I am pleased to report that the McDonald's fry cart is still there! We sat stood on a little brick wall just across the walkway from said cart for a great view of Fantasmic--and we only waited 10 minutes.

Thanks for the update on DL!! I always like to believe I know what's going on there. ;)

Welcome back! : )

I am sorry that the food at the one restaurant made you sick as a poor pup! :( did you report that experience to the restaurant and to DL? they need to know, for that establishment may very well have made other people sick too, and may again. Anyway, aside from that unpleasantness, it is good to read that you had a very good time, I am glad. :)

Welcome back and thanks for the trip report! Next time leave your DH and kids behind and have them meet you! Oh, and stay away from the Mexican food! ;)

Sorry about those two not wanting to get up early. We didn't missed a few MMs on our last trip, but that was because there were too many of us to get ready. Besides that, I didn't realize there was a huge difference in lines- now I know. I guess we'll just have to wake up a little earlier to make sure we can all get ready in time. I can give the kids their baths before bed.

Someone else on this board got sick after eating at that restaurant in CA. I think she was staying at the GCH at the time. I don't know why I remember that.

welcome back!

OK this made me laugh :rotfl: ...JC

We were there over the same dates! Well, a little less for us (14-16) :) I noticed the stickiness from the humidity too.
Sounds like a great trip! Sickness excepted...now you know I'll never eat at that restaurant :)

Nice report. Sorry you got sick. I got sick once too and I am not sure if it was from the lunch I had at French market or the dinner I had at Pizza Port but I didn't eat at EITHER place for a long time after LOL.

But I agree with one of the other posters we LOVED the house of the future. I had NEVER been to innoventions in years and then last November we finally went in and the kids liked it but I was not that impressed but then this past July we went specifically to see the house and we spent half the day in there. I thought it was REALLY interesting. I loved the picture wall and the kids loved the interactive story room! And we also went and saw the Asimo show and the kids loved that as well and then mom and I rode the Segways. We had a BLAST in there!

Sorry you didn't enjoy it!

Glad you had a good time otherwise! :)
