Hi all,
We're back from 2 weeks at Orange Lake, West Village. We arrived on Sun. 12/14 and checked out on 12/28. I got both weeks through Sky Auction and paid $672 for both weeks total...got the first week at a better rate than the second, which was Christmas week. Anyway the average was $48 per night for 14 days, not bad for a 2-bdrm villa over the holidays, in my book!
I was stupid and didn't follow the advice of fellow DISers to request the North or East village in advance. And I sent DH in to register, so we ended up in the West Village. We were in a single story duplex-type unit on a little cul-de-sac off the main drive. It was actually pretty convenient, and we REALLY appreciated the fact that we could park right outside our door.
The unit itself was clean and space generally adequate. The kitchen appliances were a bit older, but worked fine. The washer/dryer was located in the kitchen. I was less than thrilled with the washer...supposedly a large capacity, but I found it rather small. Also it was LOUD, so I had to run it when we were leaving the unit, and not when we were trying to sleep, converse, etc. The bathrooms were small, though the sink/vanity was located separately from the shower and toilet so 2 people could be getting ready at the same time. Word of warning: the water pressure was low, and if someone else in the villa turned on water, or flushed a toilet while someone was showering, the latter got scalded. We had to really be careful with the kids.
We didn't use any of the other facilities as we were on the go quite a bit, but I did drive up to take a look at the North pool and was impressed! If we do Orange Lake again, we will definitely request one of the newer (North or East village) areas. DH wasn't thrilled with being located on 192...the first week traffic flowed pretty smoothly, but it became a nightmare after Christmas. We hit a few lengthy traffic jams in the middle of the day during our last couple of days there...it was a real mess.
All in all, it was okay, and we would probably stay there again, though we'd request North or East Village. And we wouldn't do 192 on Christmas week! Sorry this was so long...hopefully it will be of benefit to someone!
