Jambo fellow Disers!

Well, first a big thanks to everyone that helped my plan my Disney vacation of a lifetime! We had a wonderful time, and our favorite part of the whole vacation was knowing that we were going to return to our beautiful hotel every evening. We really miss it already!

We stayed in room 5235 which is a deluxe room with a king bed. We saw Ankole Cattle (these were my favorite to watch), Gemsbok, zebra, pelicans, and an occasional giraffe from our balcony. The animals were within eyesight almost all the time. This was my favorite part of the resort. One note: If you want to sit on your balcony at night and watch the animals, TAKE INSECT REPELLENT! My boyfriend and I were eaten up by some kind of insect one night. You could even take a citronella candle and burn it on your balcony (as long as the flame is enclosed, it's ok with the lodge).

We did not eat at Boma, but we did eat at Jiko. It was one of our favorite restaurants at Disneyworld. (Look for my review on the Restaurants Board soon). Jiko was a perfect environment for a romantic dinner. Boma was packed everynight, but there were some wonderful aromas wafting from the restaurant. Boma seemed to be a favorite for families.

The staff throughout the hotel were very gracious and helpful. The concierge staff was especially knowledgeable and very willing to help us at any time. The concierge is available until approx 10pm at night. The breakfast offerings in the morning were plentiful, and we did not find it necessary to eat a full breakfast elsewhere. Soft drinks and bottled water are available, but you must ask for it. We got two bottled waters every morning before venturing into the parks. Security at the parks never had any problem with us taking the water into the park. Our first day, we ate a big lunch, and when we returned to the concierge lounge in the evening, we found many yummy treats waiting. We ate so many chicken wings, stuffed zuchinni, hummus, peanut butter and jelly, etc., that we didn't find it necessary to go to dinner. We also enjoyed delicious South African Wines in the evening.

As concierge guests, we also took advantage of the Sunrise Safari. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. Our guide, Greg, narrated our tour through the African savannah. He stoped at each animal viewing area and told us lots of very interesting facts about the animals and the park. We used two roles of film taking pictures! Afterwards, we enjoyed the breakfast at the Tusker House (yum!). This is one of the best breakfasts I have ever had! The salmon cakes were especially delish! The only thing that was less than perfect about the tour was this: During the tour, you get to see some of the behind the seens areas of the AK (like the animal barns). Well, the bus we took had windows which were fogged (not from the temperature, it was special glass). You couldn't really see out of the windows very well at all. But, this may have been intentional. In any case, it certainly didn't ruin the experience! I would highly recommend the Sunrise Safari to any guest of the AKL Concierge!

Other than the Sunrise Safari, we did not participate in any of the other special events at the AKL. :( We just couldn't find the time, but we will definitely try this in the future (can you tell we're going back ;) )

We rented a car and found this to be a nice luxury. For instance, we could drive from the AKL to the WL in the evening for dinner and not have to worry about connecting bus routes. However, we relied on Disney transportation during the day to take us to the parks. The buses from and to the AKL were GREAT! We never waited more than 10 minutes for our bus. And, the bus was never really crowded (no one ever had to stand up)!

The resort did feel more removed than the Epcot or the MK resorts, but my boyfriend and I LOVED this. We felt so relaxed when we were at the AKL. The beds were comfortable, the rooms were very clean, and the lodge was quiet at night. My boyfriend and I both agree that we will stay at the AKL again when we return to Disneyworld. It was truely paradise for us! :)

Feel free to ask any questions!

Welcome back!! Sounds like you had a magical stay. I love watching the animals from the balcony and walking the grounds, too. Can you share your pictures with us? I'd love to see them!!:D

Welcome back. Thanks for the review! I enjoyed reading it!

thanks for the great report! I have to try AKL concierge one of these days! !:) :) :)

Laura :)

I'm glad you had such a great time. I love the AKL concierge. The only bad thing is we never wanted to leave:smooth:

Hi Queen,

We are booked into 2 concierge rooms for this coming May. I have noted on the ressie that we requested Savannah view. I am quite concerned about the pool view issue. Do you have any info on this?

Did you request savannah view, did they say anything about putting you in a pool view? I've read that the pool view rooms are mostly smoking optional and if I request non-smoking (which I need for health reasons) I should be ok.

Sorry for the questions, but we are so looking forward to staying concierge, but are worried about not getting a savannah view.

Thanks for your report

Can't wait for our turn (2/13-23)> Just called my favorite aunt and surprised her with a birthday, X-mas, valentine's day gift. We are flying her to Disney from Puerto Rico and taking her with us. She is so excited. She called me back to make sure she was not dreaming.

She is my all time fav aunt and I love her dearly. This is her first disney trip and we are doing AKL. I'll spoil her now. She is celebrating her 55th bday. I'll have someone to hang out with when dh decides he wants to call it an early night with the kids as he always does, since he hates Epcot. Then I have someone to go with me.

Thanks for the post and keep them coming.

Oh, you're making me homesick! I'm glad you, too, appreciated the peacefulness and serenity there. Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful trip so I could get some vicarious pleasure from it. It's my dream to be able to concierge since there have been so many wonderful reports.

Can't wait for our trip. We are going to be at AKL from 2/13-23. This time, I decided to take my favorite aunt with me. I have always been very close to her. I just called her in Puerto Rico and told her to pack her bags, she is Disney Bound. Her first trip to disney world and I am spoiling her by doing AKL. What a hoot. We are going to have a great time. I'll have someone to hang out with and do something when dh and dkids decide they want to go back and swim and hang out at hotel. They do it all the time since they all agree that they hate Epcot, which I love and I always end up alone here.

We are so excited and my aunt called me back, to verify that she is going. She is so thrilled and so are the kids. We don't get to see her that often and spend time with her.

sorry for the double post. Told me website not responding but I see that it did take it the first time. Forgive me.

Sounds wonderful! Makes me ready to go back to WDW!

Hi everyone! Thanks for the responses.

lizzie64 - No need to apologize for asking the question. That's what these wonderful boards are for! :) I also requested a savannah view, non-smoking room. They never mentioned giving me a pool view room. I did not request a particular savannah, but they put me on the Arusha savannah (some of the staff members call it "the big boy savannah," because it's host to the larger savannah animals like Ankole Cattle and Giraffe.) I really don't think that you will end up with a pool view. As long as you are ok with staying on the 5th floor, you should definitely get a savannah view room.

I forgot to mention in my post that the AKL let me check in at 6:30 am, and OUR ROOM WAS READY! :) I couldn't believe it. I was really just planning on picking up our passes and heading to the parks. I never dreamed that our room would be ready. It was great!

Pigsty333- How wonderful! I am sure that your family is going to have a spectacular time. :teeth:

Patio- Unfortunately, we do not own a digital camera. So, I'll have to wait to get my pictures developed and put in a digital format. This will probably happen next weekend since I'm leaving tommorrow for a business trip (uggghhhhh). But, I will post my pictures as soon as I am able. :)

Please feel free to ask any more questions.

Queenofhearts, it sounds like your vacation was magical. *Sigh* I'm awaiting your photos. Welcome home!

We stayed AKL Concierge on our lasttrip and we found it to be wonderful as well.

You mentioned that the bus windows were clouded. On our Sunrise Safari we were given the same tour of the "backlot" of AK. The windows were not clouded over and we had a good view of the animal and horticulture barns. Very informative. It's too bad you didn't get a good view through your bus windows.

Sounds like you had a wonderful time! Did you get a chance to try a Zebra Dome? It was offered a couple of times at the concierge lounge during our stay....YUMMM!!

Glad you enjoyed AKL! I just this weekend got to our laundry from our trip last week. As I was adding my trip clothes I caught the AKL aroma on my clothes and got "homesick."

hello

Looks like we might be there around the same time. Did you get airfare yet? I am flying out of Phila and it seems alittle higher this year.
