We just came back from our 7 night trip to WDW. Here is the update 
We went on the GOLD Plan, and boy, we ate more than a small country. It was worth every penny!!! We ate twice at Fultons.... and we ate well, even took dessert to go!! and twice at Yachtsman, at my DH request. We waddled out of there too!! everything we ate was AWESOME!!!. Liberty tree tavern for lunch, cape may, chef mickey's and Ohana for breakfast with the characters. the places we were able to eat at and the money we saved (we kept track of our prices) pretty much paid for half of our trip
I was worried about the confusing with the old meal plan and the new one.... what was I thinking, there wasn't any. All of the servers prefered the old plan, and they kept feeding us, suggesting new things, different appiteizers etc ( yes, I know there tip is based on our final bill, but hey, it was paid for right??

DH was happy because after we crunched the numbers it looked like our vaction was less than half of what we paid for, becuase as he says "if we paid cash for these meals..... we would need a second mortgage"
All said and done, we would certianly pay for a meal package again. I think the server was explaining the premium package in the new plans is similar to the "old" gold plan if anyone is interested. You CAN eat at fultons, and liberty tree tavern on the premium plan like the old gold plan.
