As of March (our use year), we're finally going to be caught up on our points! We've been in a state of borrowing ever since we bought the resale contract. It had borrowed points from the next use-year when we purchased it. My DH calls me the "point debtor" because my 1 BDR addiction caused us to remain in a state of borrowing  I'm glad that we're finally getting caught up

Hey dont feel bad. I am the same way. I got so bad that I went out and added a 50 pts at SSR last week because I am in debt up to 2007..
The reason , we are taking my entire family with us in april and we used up last yrs200pts :bounce: , this yrs and most of next yrs. We are going to miss the 50th party so we decided to get 50 more pts and go back in dec.

We're in point dept up to our eyeballs. Last year we were going to splurge and take my MIL. That was going to be ALL the borrowing we needed. That trip was so much fun so we decided to bring her back. We also are bringing my step-mom and my two teenage brothers. I have a two bedroom at OKW for 5 days and then a one bedroom for 5 more. This includes 2 weekends. It was the only way that everyone could get off work and school.

The only reason we are going to catch up, is that 2006 is our 10 year anniversary. DH want to go somewhere else. :teeth:

I am so afraid of going into point debt! I am trying so hard to only use the points we have and maybe only borrow 25 or so from next year! This is becomming harder and harder as I really would prefer to start staying in 1 bdrms instead of studios. Although it's really not necessary as there are only 3 of us and we more than likely won't cook, it just has so much more room. Now I am deciding between 5 nights in a 1 bdrm or 7-8 in a studio. DH says ditch the 1 bdrm and stay longer..... :confused3

It is hard for us next year because we can only travel when school is out, and our spring break is also Easter week...Ugh--Prem. Season.....

Do you think that once we stay in a 1 bdrm we will ever want to go back to a studio? This is my fear!

We've been in a constant state of borrowing too. We would of been all caught up for our 11/06 trip but the thought of waiting that long was kinda of depressing.

Long story made short. We are going in 1/06 too and will not be caught up till 2007. :wave2:

We were doing fine with points till this year. My DH convinced me to stay Fri-Sat in August in a two bedroom at BCV instead of switching from another hotel. So we am in the hole till August 2007.

So basically we used all of 2004, 2005 and most of 2006 to stay 7 nights, and I have two studios for Sun-Thurs for my Inlaws and DSis.

I all our stays at OKW the first two were in Studios but, the last 30 or so stays were in One Bedroom villas and larger. Even when just the two of us travel we stay in a One Bedroom. We have the luxury of having ample points so for us, I can't see ever going back to Studios.

Though I must admit if the choice was Studio or don't vacation at OKW - I think the Studio would be just fine once in a while.

Congratulations! We're March Use Year, and we're in point debt, and we just added 100 points to our total, and I just upgraded our August stay from 2 studios to a 2 bedroom.

We took MB so, in a way we started in a hole. My goal is not to have to borrow more than 100 points from 2007. In '08, DH and I will celebrate our 40th anniversary, and I want to have enough to have a real Grand Gathering at WDW and a BC at VB!

I'm going to take the opposite side of this discussion. IMHO there is nothing wrong with being in "point debt". Unlike being in $$$ debt, there is no cost to borrowing points so why not borrow? Even if you borrow every year, chances are at some point you won't be able to travel for whatever reason and you will catch up. And if you don't and end up borrowing every year, your points run out in 2041 instead of 2042 (unless of course you own at SSR).

I agree that borrowing points is no big deal. Of course, our age has something to do with it...I am 55 and my DH is 61. Even with 450 points we still run short...actually I am only into next year's points by 10 or so. We started out banking the first year's points rather than taking Magical Beginnings and then were able to later vacation like there was no bottem to the point well. Humph!

I hope to plan a megatrip in 2006 and will probably use two years worth of points. Then I probably will whine. :rolleyes2

Well, in our case, "traveling" now means a 5-minute car-ride to WDW, LOL! I doubt that there will be ANY year when we couldn't use our points now. If anything, we could use them a lot more, so I'm trying to get caught up. Also, if we get caught up I won't have to listen to my husband call me a "point debtor" every time I book a 1 BDR, LOL!

We're in point debt right now, too (December use year). We have a 2BR reserved for this December which we needed to borrow from our December '06 use year to complete. We plan on taking a 7-night Disney Cruise October '06 (paid cash) so we're hoping we can hold off on a DVC stay until after that cruise. We'll have enough points left in our December '06 use year to get a 1BR sometime after the cruise until our December 2007 points become current.

It'll be hard, but I KNOW I CAN DO IT! LOL -- just trying to convince myself of that!!! LOL ;)

For us, it is impossible to get rid of point debt. We've added on 3 times, and each time we immediately planned more vacations to max out our borrowing limit.

Would you rather worry about how to use 8 banked points, or be in the constant state of borrowing? From what I've seen, if you are always borrowing, you can never lose your points. Borrowing is better. :)

We were all caught up from our point debt last yr, even banked a bunch so we could take my parents on DCL with us. Then, I realized by borrowing 170 points from our BWV contract that we could put my parents in a balcony room, so we did that and are back in "point debt"!

My BCV contract never has any debt or banking because I knew exaclty when I wanted to go to BCV (when it is warm!) and use the exact number of points in that contact every year in May.

I almost know the feeling. We have been in "point debt" since we joined in 2000. We did an add on this summer, so as of this February, we have 100 points. We have a non-Disney vacation planned this year so we can get caught up, but those 100 add on points are burning a hole in my pocket. I have been thinking about Thanksgiving in HH in a Grand Villa :goodvibes but that would mean borrowing a few points rom next year. Then I thought about a short, late, summer trip in a studio and trying out the new water slides at Typhoon Lagoon! ::yes:: I'm sure DH will be the practical one and let me know how crazy I am to think about it......

.....but a girl can dream!!

You guys make me laugh! I live in dreaded fear of borrowing points. DH keeps suggesting it for a GV stay in 3 years. I keep saying "no way, we'll just buy more points". That usually stops him from any borrowing talk! :)

I am in agreement with those who don't think borrowing is an issue. As HBC said, it's not like you're borrowing money, there's no interest that accrues. What's the worst that could happen, in 2042 you'll have to rent points? I am not one to run up "real" debts, I pay my credit card off every month and paid for my car with cash. But DVC "debt" is a non issue for me. :wave2:
