a rescue Golden Retriever:lovestruc . This Saturday we go to meet her and if all is good between us we can take her home that day! She's seven years old (we had asked for an "older Golden") and reported to be calm, gentle and very affectionate. I'm so excited -- been spending all day getting ready for my new "fur baby."

We've never adopted a full-grown dog before, only puppies. I'm wondering what we can expect as she transitions to our home and any tips on making that transition easier. TIA

I have no tips - but how wonderful of you!!!! :goodvibes :goodvibes

Please update us (with pics, too!!!)

Awesome - awesome - awesome!!!

Thanks -- I'm sure I'll get as much from this as she will! I'm a complete idiot when it comes to posting pictures (unless I can get DD to help), but there is a picture of her on ligrr.org. Click on "Available Dogs" and scroll down -- she is "Cutie Pie."

Her first DIS pic!!! :thumbsup2

You know, older dogs are VERY thankful to their new owners. They 'know' theyve been rescued. Youre going to have a wonderful, loving, greatful companion!!! :cloud9: :cloud9:

Awww.... thanks so much for posting her picture. I, of course, think she's beautiful. :lovestruc :lovestruc

What a beautiful dog!! Congrats! What is her name?

Congrats on your new baby!!

We recently adopted a 7 year old hound mix. He is the best dog i have ever had. He does seem very grateful for his 'forever' home. We don't know the situation before us because he was brought to the shelter as a stray. He was well cared for before at some point though!! He is very polite, knows all his commands, walks very well on a leash and has had some surgery that was not minor!

How wonderful! We've had two rescued goldens, and both were older when we got them. It may take a bit of patience if your dog has been abused. We had to be careful about raising our voices or making quick movements toward one of ours for a couple of months until she learned that we wouldn't harm her. Then the love really started.:goodvibes She was smart and cuddly and had a neat sense of humor. They both lived to ripe, old ages and we still miss them.

Good luck! Goldens are SUCH great dogs.

Thanks, everyone, for all your good wishes. We will be naming her "Molly." The rescue people don't think she has been abused but we will be taking it slowly with her at first, as I'm sure she will be confused and a bit frightened. I'm so excited!

She is gorgeous. I take my hat off to you, I wouldn't have the guts to get a rescue dog in case it turned out to have problems I couldn't handle, but I'm glad there's people like you who do.

Hope you have fun with her.

Congratulations! The dog we have now is our first golden and she is really so eager to please and just a wonderful dog. We got her as a puppy from the Humane Society.

I've fostered older dogs before and my best advice is to just give them some time to adjust.

No advice but how exciting. We have a Golden, she is about 2 years old now and is the greatest dog I've ever had! She does exactly what she's told (unless your not looking;) ) and is absolutely wonderful with the kids.

Truer words have never been written. My family adopted an older German Shepherd, and his "girlfriend" - and older Collie mix - because they didn't want to seperate them. They turned out to be two of the most faithful, loving dogs I've ever known.

Prepare yourself, you're about to find true love :cloud9: .

Well, we survived our first day/night. Actually she's a dream dog. Sooooo sweet -- just laps up all the love and attention she can get. The funniest thing is that I had to convince DH to get another dog. So who does Molly attach herself to? Yup!!:rotfl: Thanks, everbody for all your good wishes. We are so happy we did this!:goodvibes :lovestruc
