Went to the Y and walked for an hour, on the TM. I feel pretty good but was disgusted with the number of non-faithfuls that we there just trying to lose the 3-5 pounds they gained over the holiday. Not that that is bad, but they weren't doing it right! Not using proper gym etiquete, I mean. So they aren't regulars. I expect this will fizzle out by Valentines day and then I won't be so irritated. Way too many little kids, too many college age kids (a special program being run until the 15th), and too many people who are there to be seen. Have I mentioned our Y is like a country club? It is laughable, listening to the who's who of our little town talking about who they bumped into at the Y. As if they were at a Lakers game or something. I may just have to stick to Pilates at home until the frenzy dies down. (Or I could just be PMSing:crazy: ::yes:: )

Oh yeah! DD went with me. She's 11 and is on that very fine line between the"heavy side of normal" and "overweight" We are trying hard to keep her on a maintenance program, but her love for food is a real problem. It is also compounded by the fact that she thinks she just "takes after Daddy (300+ lbs) and Grandma (240 lbs)." I swear, I feel like such a failure as a parent, but I also don't want to make eating a control issue. On the other hand, if we don't get this under control, I see much trouble for her in the future. She already is being teased and ostricized at school. It is a big step for her to go walking with me. Yesterday, she played outside in the snow for an hour, and asked "How many calories do you think I burned?" I told her more than if you had not played outside. She liked that. I do to. Wish us luck. She wants me to pick her up after school tomorrow so she can walk with me again. Could be a great Mommy/Daughter moment!

Keep the Faith!

My son was overweight so I know how you are feeling about your daughter. Sounds like you are handling this situation very well.

The gym "newbies" will fade away soon and you won't feel so aggravated. I'm proud of you for actually going to the gym :)

Good for you! Glad you got to the gym.

You're right, it's hard to watch your children eat enormous amounts, then say something, and not make food an issue. Frankly, it is. But how do you guide in constructive, helpful ways? Hhmmmm...good question. Maybe a good idea for a whole different thread. Ask parents how they are dealing with their borderline weight problem children. I don't have kids. I'm the one with the weight problem here!

Glad your daughter is motivated (if even for a short time) to walk with you. That's neat time together for the two of you.
