We went to SP for the first time on Wednesday also.
We got there at about 11AM and all day, we found the crowds very manageable. We went right on the Vaopor Trail with only about a 5 minute wait, spent about 15 minutes waiting for the new caruousel - it's really cute with the muppet-styled horses. That wait for the carousel was the longest we had.
We had a good lunch at Elmo's place, rode some more dry rides, the kids spent some time climbing in the big rope playground, and then we watched the elmo show (our little DD had been looking for the "real" elmo all day

.
After that we went and changed into our wet clothes and spent the rest of the day (3PM to about 7PM) doing water stuff.
At first, the big family tube ride was pretty crowded, - we did the little Slimey Slides instead. We caught Abby Cadabby's show and then did the lazy river, and finally let the girls go play at Ernie's water works for about half an hour. When we made our way back to the front of the park again, the line on the rubber ducky slide was MUCH shorter - this was about 6PM. We got in line and were up the stairs and back down in about 10 minutes... at the bottom the cast members encouraged us to go back up the stairs again... they said they were trying to set a record for the most people to ride the ride in an hour and that's why they were rushing people through. We did the ride two more times in pretty quick succession - less than 10 minutes each time.
Lots of fun.
We had a great time... Wednesday was a good choice of days. The weather was great, the park was clean and not too crowded.
We didn't really notice any more rude people than you would see in any other park... probably a bit better than most, actually.
One thing I did notice.. enough that I commented on it to DW, was that there seemed to be an AWFUL LOT of people with tattoos. We had our kids a little later than most - after trying for a long time to have DD#1, so were a bit older than the average parents of kids in the target demographic of SP, so it may just be a "generational" thing, but LOTs of parents of small kids seem to be tattooed now... and it was all races, by outward appearance all different socio-economic levels. It's probably just more apparent there because so many people are walking around in swim suits, but it kinda made me feel old.
