I found a few that where in great shape. but after checking them against ebay I would have paid way more for them here. That made me wonder. Is it worth paying more (by almost 1/2 again) when you can see the item before you buy it? I am close on one as with shipping and all it is only about 3 to 5 bucks higher than on ebay but I got to touch this one and see it's condtion...

What do you think? Would you rather pay a little more and see it or do you take a chance on a sellers description?

I'm the reason you started collecting the Leeds Planters. :teeth: I love mine!!

All of my planters were purchased on ebay. I always make sure I read the description very carefully, ask the seller questions, and ask for more pictures if I want more detail. I haven't seen too many planters at shows, but I have found some at antique stores. Just as you mentioned, most of the time they are 2-3 times the price of what I have paid or seen other planters go for on ebay.

I have yet to have been disappointed when I received one of my planters. Some of them have hairline cracks or crazing, but since they are from the 40's and 50's, I don't expect them to be perfect.

I'd rather buy on ebay for less. Gives me more $$ left over to spend on other cool things I need. :hyper:

I think it would depend on how much less. Significant?
And I would haggle the price with the local seller. ;)
For $3 - $5 difference, guess I would go with what is at hand and trouble free.

Leeds was a company that made Disney Ceramics in the 40's and 50's. Most of them have pastel hues. They made planters, wall pockets (planters that hang on the wall), banks, cookie jars, lamps and figurines. The characters I have seen are Bambi (they made a LOT from Bambi), Thumper, Flower (he's a tiny one and is HTF), Cinderella, Snow White, Dopey, Dumbo, Alice in Wonderland (that is my favorite), Mickey, Donald and probably some I forgot.

Not all my planters were made by Leeds. I can't post a picture....maybe Nat can post one of some of his. Or is someone can post a picture for me......LMK and I'll email it to you.

Hi!
I don't know if it is a Leeds, but I have a Pluto planter I bought at a local antiques mall. Looked it up in my Tomart's a while ago and I think it might have been made in Chicago in the 50's or 60's.

There were a couple of Pluto Planters that I have seen.

One had Pluto pulling a wagon, the other is smaller and Pluto is sitting around a basket.

Is it one of these??

Tomarts is a great reference for vintage Disneyana. Do you have the books that came out first (there were 5) or do you have the Disneyana Updates which now come out 4 times a year?? I refer to mine all the time.

Thanks for explaining about Leeds planters, Kathie!

I am looking at the Pluto pulling the wagon one now... it is in great shape but is just a little over what I would call a fair price for it (going on ebay)

And Kathie... Thanks for the addiction!!!

You are welcome Leslie!! I wish I could post a picture.

Nat....just keep your eyes open. Most planters come up frequently and you'll get a Pluto one for the price you want to pay.
