I just got my phone bill. My calls to make me resort and dining reservations has *so far* cost me $80!!!! That is totally unacceptable. The wait time is ridiculous and for there to not be an 800 number...... I'm usually pretty nonplussed by stuff like this but that is a lot of money! I'm going to send them a nice little email and let them in on the costs to their guests for this. This just isn't fair. :mad:
 
Wow. Your per minute charges must be really high. It would take lots and lots of hours on the phone before it cost me that kind of money.
 
Wow! I normally book my resort on line and I usually have all my ADR plans scheduled out (with options) and make all my ADR's in one phone call. I've had to wait but it never seemed that long.
 
I waited 2 hours once to get my computer fixed... and that didn't include the time it took for the guy to tell me how to fix it.

Out of curiousity... you don't have long distance included in your bill... how much more does it cost you to include it? Time Warner here includes the long distance in their bill here when you get digital phone and its the same price as regular phone through Alltel.
 

well since we have a cell phone we don't usually use the land line and have no package on it but yeah....thats what it cost!
 
That's ridiculious. I've always wondered why they don't have an 800 number! I think that's so strange for such a huge company to not have a toll free number.

Like Vonage but only $20 a month: unlimited long distance, local, call waiting, call forwarding, automatic call forwarding, email phone messages, remote message checking, 911, etc. We also have a battery surge protector that kicks in for our computer if the power goes out.]

That sucks it is so expensive. I use the "Free when you call from work" method or use the cell phone. But it is surprising that they don't have 1800 for reservations, even if not for dining.

Having an 800 number can be very expensive, especially for a company like Disney. You are charged for EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY call that comes through. That would be a huge phone bill for Disney. Thus, the prices we all pay for everything there would have to go up even more.

We don't have any long distance on our house phone. I usually use a calling card or our cell phone to call WDW if it is after DVC member services is closed. Member services does have an 800 number that DVC members use, but we have to pay the phone bill through our annual dues.

Interesting. I also have always wondered why a company like Disney wouldn't have 800 numbers for reservations and dining but your post makes perfect sense. I can only imagine the amount of calls Disney gets in a day. When you look at it like that, I think I would rather pay for my own calls to Disney as opposed to having the cost of everyone's calls passed on to me in higher prices.

To keep long distance costs low for us, I also use my cell phone, make all my ADRs at once and call during "off" times so the waits aren't so long.
 
I think everyone must have missed the previous post that gave the 800 # for Dining.it is my understanding that if you call that # they will transfer you to Reservations also-problem solved.:)

I hope that they do not change it anytime soon!
You might want to check with your cell company, most have free long distance or nation wide calling.

Disney doesn't have toll free numbers for dining and reservations because...they don't have to. We will all call anyway. Companies pay for a toll free number to encourage customers to call -- and we don't need any encouragement! :laughing:

Here's the down side folks: that toll free number that was just posted is not for the general public. It's for vendors and travel agents, more than likely, and there is a reason Disney doesn't publish it and make it public. Every time we call that number, it's on Disney's dime, and they don't like paying for those calls. Now that it's been posted, within a very short time after folks see it here and start using it, Disney will shut the number down. Lots of people have posted lots of toll free numbers on boards like this, and every single time, the numbers have been disconnected.
 
That's why I went through a TA. No additional charges to me and they do all the leg work. Plus this is my 1st time so I would not knowhat I am doing anyway.
 
Sorry but I don't buy the increase this would cost across the board for WDW. The cost for an 800 trunk line is not that large in the greater scheme for WDW and it is in fact a cost they know we will incur just to get our planning done. I don't pay Marriott, JetBlue, Delta, and so on. An 800 is an expected cost of doing business and one of the only things I really flame WDW for not addressing.

Yes, I can use a cell phone but have phone that sometimes service is so so. I also have an x # of minutes per month plan so with the time spent on these calls would have really dented my plan hours and possibly gone over so I would have been paying OOP anyways. Its just a silly thing for a company like WDW to not have this number.

For the person who posted the 800 number, thank you so much! I'll use that while I continue to finalize our last few ADRs. We are really excited to be going and we may not get that last ADR we want (table for CRT b'fast for 2 on our anniversary!) but I'll keep trying and maybe some pixie will sprinkle the dust on me! lol

Years ago before cell phone I would just go to wallmart and buy a phone card and it was good for hours to do my disney planning. I still keep one on us for travel, just in case. We never pay for long distance because of all the little charges and we really never call long distance, just keep one of those calling cards.

I don't know what carrier you have but I have verizon and I can call all over the country, there is no way I would pay that for ADRs from Disney I would eat counter service the whole time, that is crazy, I don't blame you for being upset
