Well there goes my hotel.... Help!!

We get the years of reviews... we have stayed at hotels with years of reviews that were good and then they went downhill.. that is the worry :-( a syringe was found, floors dirty (we are a barefoot family) hairs on the "clean" towels etc are all reported lately :-(

And interspersed with those were decent reviews.

But I trust tripadvisor as far as I can throw it. And that's been the case for years for me.

This! I would much rather trust the lovely people here on DIS than Trip Advisor any day!!!

Then why would you ask again?

I am just curious why you seem to need about a dozen threads on the same subject, you will not find any new information asking the same question over and over to the same group of people.

If folks have a few minutes...On the subject of cheap hotels and the area in general...

Anaheim's Resort District, the area around Disneyland, is an interesting place to research. Obviously it's a foundation made for tourists and conference-goers. The architecture of the place hide some of the neighborhoods which surround it. Garden Grove, Santa Ana, Stanton, and Buena Park are not the most economically well-off in certain areas. Also Anaheim proper has certain viewpoints about Disneyland and how much support the City offers in terms of public works and policing. Does get quite political at times.

So this means? There's a premium paid for staying in the Resort District. Whether because of location, room taxes, parking, and so on. You will notice palm trees, nice landscaping, decorative bus stops and upscale restaurants. Go 2-3 miles out in any direction and will see a different side to the town.

This translates to: Less-costly options are available if the palm trees and decorative bus stops are things you can do without. The owners of the hotels can vary, some locally owned cater to Disneyland more than others. Many of your chains will generally be fine even a couple miles out.

The accommodations: Hotel owners know they will get business regardless of the setup simply because of location to Disneyland. Therefore some will be more willing than others to invest in furniture and bedding on a regular basis. Usually reflects in the price in the hotel.

Bottom Line: Do good homework, and you generally can find a decent room even though they may not have "Egyptian Cotton" available.
Thank you so much! It is interesting to see the difference as i have watched on and off over the years praying to be able to pull this off.

I had a listbof over 10 hotels/motels in the area BUT because we finally got some time off work and had such littlw notice, all of them are booked at least 2 of the 3 days. With kids i would prefer to not hop (especially because the 2 days are usually right in the middle of our trip which would mean moving twice most likely)

I had motel all set and was excited to get it. Curious about others as they popped up so i asked. Then my husband saw the syringe and said that was a complete dealbreaker for him. (Cant say i blame him) so yes now im back to the drawing board and hoping to find some nice people with some insight. :( seems i have somehow really mad at least one person mad somehow... Although he just came on my post to whine about me asking and imply im looking for stuff im not.

Ive asked about several low end motels, a few higher end hotels have been suggested to me (usualy because sweet people have seen flash sales that unfortunatley didnt include my dates)

I dont know what i did to make some think i wanted high end hotels for 100 or less... That isnt the case and want to make that clear. I just want clean and safe. Unfortunately a syringe is not clean and def not safe so that motel is blacklisted for us.

Our childrens safety is priority number 1 :) sorry if this doesnt fly with some.

Keep in mind if you read enough reviews EVERYWHERE will have these "ups and downs" , I do this to myself as well. I know the Motel 6 is rather popular here so I take the overall experience with soem weight.

However some good local budget places are :

Super 8 Katella
Super 8 Disneyland Drive
Eden Roc ( newly remodeled and getting good feedback)
Anaheim Majestic

I typically use Orbitz to get an idea who has availability then use that to search individual sites for better offers.
Thank you btw. I somehow didnt post my thanks yesterday :) its nice to have a few new ones to watch and hopefully be able to get into. :)

Hi. I'm sorry but yes, people are irritated because you are basically blowing up the boards with essentially the same question.

Here's a map which I find to be very helpful.

http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=33.813545&lon=-117.916673&z=18&m=b&permpoly=9609177

Click on the hotels and you will be able to then click a link directly to that hotel's site. You can move the map to search for hotels further out. Hopefully you will find a hotel at your pricepoint. From there use the Dis search function to research Dis'ers experiences at that hotel.

Asking one hotel vs another is not the same question to me. Sorry if i see it differently. :( thanks for the map

Of course it is off-putting to hear about housekeeping not picking up a syringe, as it puts into question their standards of cleanliness. However, if you (or your husband) are concerned about drug abuse going on in the hotel then I would have to point out that syringes are used for a variety of medical needs, not just by drug users. My best friend's son who is 7 has to have injections nightly for growth treatments. Others are diabetic and need them. Some need epi pens on hand in case of severe allergies.
I personally know nothing about this hotel other than what has been said here on the Dis. I hope you find something that will work for you!

Yes, his mom is diabetic so that part wasnt so worrisome. its that our children could have stepped on it with their bare feet or found it and messed with it and gotten poked pretty quickly. My family has epi pens, but we keep them away from our young children... not on the floor where who knows what could happen rather quickly. Thats the concern, seems housekeeping didnt do much cleaning if they missed something like that :-(

The guy said it was "in the curtains." I'm a little surprised they would miss it, but something about the whole thing is fishy to me.

I agree! Ive stayed in lots of Motel 6's, some not in the best areas and have never come across anything like that. Sounds to me like this guy might have been trying to get a free ride out of Motel 6! The Motel 6 Maingate is one of the nicest Motel 6's I've stayed at and is very well maintained!

As for the black feet/socks thing... even the fanciest hotels have that problem! I always wear my slippers in hotels now ever since having black socks at Desert Inn, PVI, Paradise Pier Hotel and Tropicana!!

To add to that, we got dirty feet at the GCH... So it can really happen anywhere :)

I'm going close to the same time as you and I got the Best Western Stovall for $83 a night through Hotwire. Open the hotwire site for your dates, 4 people, and Anaheim and then open another window with betterbidding.com and most of the time you can figure out exactly what you are getting. I booked and cancelled that same Motel 6 after a spate of bad reviews last year and stayed at Ramada Maingate which I was extremely happy with.

We stayed at Stovall's and LOVED it! It's such a pretty walk back at night!

Since you have a car, here are some options:

http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rental...20&to-date=2015-10-25&minPrice=0&maxPrice=125

We've done VRBO/AirBnB/Homeway reservations several times and it works great for us! (We like it because there are a zillion of us, so if you split us into hotel rooms we don't see each other after the kids are in bed. The house we have for our trip for pretty much the same dates as yours sleeps 35, but you don't need one that big!) I've also stayed at the Motel 6. We had six (maybe 7?) rooms that trip. They were all spotless. Except my little brother's room, which was spotless except for the cockroaches. :rolleyes1

Black feet can definitely happen anywhere. In order to get ALL the grime out of carpets they need to be shampooed/steam cleaned and there is no way hotels can do that every time the room is turned over. We are a no shoes in the house kind of family so it does give me the heebie-jeebies when I think of all the people that have trapesed through those rooms with their nasty shoes on after days at the park. Yuck! But it's just one of those things that I have had to accept when travelling!
