Terry - You should probably request a room with an Illuminations view to be sure. I spoke with a man in one of the rooms on the extension corridor at the rear of the building who said he could not see Illuminations from his room. As far as I can see, rooms on each floor ending in odd numbers from 39 to 52 probably do not have an Illuminations view. There will certainly be other rooms that are blocked by the rear extension. But it appear that the majority of rooms on the rear of the building that are not in the extension corridors do have an Illuminations view.
Halle - The balconies vary in size depending on the location in the building. It appears that some studio rooms have very large balconies because they are located adjacent to a large circular turret. Our 2 bedroom unit has two balconies large enough for the six of us to sit outside, but they are narrow, like Boardwalk's balconies. My wife has finished a couple of novels on the balcony, so it can't be too bad.
The "secret" path is the one depicted on the plans for the Villas, described above by Niagara2. Because of the location of the entrance to the path, adjacent to the bridge to Boardwalk, it is faster to walk from Boardwalk to the Villas than to ride the ferry across to the Beach Club.
World Showcase does not open until 11:00 a.m., however Future World opens at 9:00 a.m., so the International Gate opens just before 9:00 a.m. Consequently, while you cannot go to France until 11:00 a.m., you can go to the Fountain Cafe at 9:00 a.m., which has great coffee, croissants, muffins, etc. In the afternoon, my will weakens and go for the coffee and pastery in France.
It is still raining, but less. Last night and tonight, we saw stars for the first time in a week. After we leave here, we will go to Key West (snorkling in Bahia Honda) for a week. It appears that the rain is now moving to the Keys. And so it goes.
