and I ended up with a new ruby red seedless grapefruit, a navel orange AND an avocado. Our backyard backs up to a large orange grove and when the blossoms were out last spring the smell was so intense that it almost made me sick - and I love the smell of orange blossoms. I have a lemon I put in last year but I blew it. I wanted a Meyer lemon - large and very seet. I will get one - but it sure makes a difference hen Alan plants and when I plant. He does it right.

Oooooh, I'm jealous! I would love to have a citrus tree. I have to be content with apples and cherries unless we relocate.

I love citrus fruit plants. We can't grow most of them in our area but when we were further south a lot of people had mixed success. I like pear trees too. Do they grow in Florida?

I've never seen a pear tree here in Florida. My very first gardening venture when I was newly married, first house, in Illinois was a dwarf pear tree. I did not know that pears need a "mate" (don't we all). There must have been one in the neighborhood though because it did not take long for it to grow HUGE delicious pears.

Oh I'm green with envy. I'd love to grow citrus trees. Mmm the fresh clean smell.
I used to have an ornamental orange (smelled a little) that did very well in a southern window but it died a few years back. Maybe I should try again.:sunny:

I'm jealous too...what I would give to go out and pick some fruit for breakfast

I am trying to be patient in waiting for our orange tree to produce. We bought one only (neighbors across the street have a huge orange tree). Ours is about 4-5 ft now.
We have 2 plum trees and they finally produced, best plums I've ever had. I didn't share with the rest of the family, LOL.
We have a peach tree that I'm not sure if it's going to make it. It's our second time to try a peach tree. Dh says it will produce eventually.
Has anyone ever grown a papaya tree? I started one from a seed from the grocery store, it is now about 2-3 ft tall. It's beautiful but I dont know if it usually grows in Houston. I just did it for fun... Anyone know how tall they get? Thanks

They sell papaya trees down here but other than that I don't know anything about them BUT go to Gardenweb.com and you will get everything you want to know.

I want a citrus tree... When I move to Fla... I hope that is sooner than later. :) I love the smell of the citrus groves.
