I don't see much about Shades of Green dining, but we recently stayed there and had dinner at the Italian restaurant (Mangino's, I think). We liked it so much we went back again. Really excellent food, good service, reasonable prices. It was almost empty (didn't make reservations) both times, so I assume most people don't know about it. Give it a try.

Well, I would like to give it a try BUT ... there is a problem that many of us non-military types would have.

From SoG's website's FAQ:

Q: Can I dine in your restaurants even if I do not hold a reservation at Shades of Green?

A: Yes. You will be asked to provide a valid military ID to access Shades of Green property.

and if they are like the Hale Koa at least one person in your party has to have a military or sponsered guest ID card to get into the resturants as well.

All of the above is true. As a current military wife, only active duty and families are allowed on Shades of Green property. Now if we decided to go there with my parents, it would be OK because we have valid ID's and they can easily accompany us on base at home. Same rule of thumb applies at any military resort as it does to a military installation.
