Well...I wrote the letter.....

I had no problem posting on a public board since my wife does not choose to go on the DISboards...I enjoy it(most of the time) but she thinks that it is wasting my time....but I enjoy being on it and reading what other people think....getting advice....etc.....so if I seem like I am asking for an upgrade and I gave that impression on a previous post....which I guess is about 400 by now.....I am sorry I gave that impression.....I will watch what I post for now on.....I will have a wonderful cruise.....with or without the upgrade that I may or may not get......maybe when I get to the port I will pay a little more and buy my upgrade......thanks for setting me straight......anything else on this subject and it will probably be moved to the debate board....which in no way shape or form did I plan on....just wanted to let people know I did write the letter BECAUSE I FEEL THAT THEY SHOULD TAKE SPECIAL CARE OF RESERVATIONS THAT ARE AN ATTEMPT TO BE SECRET......I GOT CHEATED....NOT MY WIFE....I WANTED TO SEE THE EXPRESSION ON HER FACE WHEN I PULLED INTO THE PORT CANAVERAL PARKING LOT TO GO ON THE CRUISE......SO I WILL NOT SEE IT THIS TIME.....MAYBE SOMETIME IN THE FUTURE........
Thanks all.....
Tom

Tom,
I am sorry your big surprise for your wife got spoiled. It was very thoughful of you to plan. First, a canceled cruise to disappoint you, then a surprise cruise spoiled. I was very disappointed by an incident on our family reunion cruise in Dec., so.... I know just how you feel. IMO, until one walks a mile in your shoes they should not judge:(. Pls. continue to post and I hope you and yours have a wonderful cruise!

Tom having read your initial thread and this one I understood your being p####d o## with DCL and can appreciate why you wrote to them. If you did get something great. If not, so be it. Can't quite understand Ann's angst with you but Oh well ;)
DCL "should" offer something. An upgrade? Hmmm don't think so, but a complimentary something wouldn't be out of line.
If nothing then thats just the way it goes.
Cheers,
Grumbo

Hey Tom.

I will have a wonderful cruise.....with or without the upgrade that I may or may not get

Apparently those incidents which constitute a cabin upgrade are subjective in nature. I disagree with some of the other posters on this matter. You are a loyal customer who experienced a cancelled cruise due to DCL's best - and admirable - efforts to curtail a highly contagious flu. Their decision to sanitize the ship directly effected your cruise plans. The unfortunate result of a necessary decision. Consequently, the cancelled cruise does not qualify as a cabin-upgrade event and I do not recall any demands on your part in that regard.

On the other hand, the error of a CM to disregard documented cruise instructions does qualify for a cabin upgrade - according to my subjectivity. After following all of the appropriate steps, a DCL employee inadvertently ruined your entire purpose for taking the cruise. Advance notice is merely an opinion, and in your case it happens to be an immaterial excuse of others.

Disney executives read these boards and I trust this thread has made all of the necessary/appropriate "rounds." I truly hope you are surprised (pleasantly - lol) upon embarking on this "un-surprise" cruise. You seem to be a good man with bad luck...

Good luck with getting something for your ruined surprise.:(
I hope you and you wife enjoy the cruise.
PS Could you talk to my dh about surprisong me with a cruise.LOL Your wife is a lucky woman.;)

Tom,

Sorry we never got to meet on the May 10th cruise. I would have enjoyed meeting you and your wife. Sorry to hear that the surprise was ruined. I agree with some of the others that maybe you can surprise you wife a little with something on the cruise. On the May cruise my DH (MarkRG) surprised me with a crystal block that had the ship laser etched into it (you can find them in the booklet that comes with your cruise docs). We had a basket from Shirley planned as a surprise for my MIL and my DH surprised me with that.

Whatever you do I know you'll make the cruise fun and special. Here's hoping your luck with DCL improves. May your weather be as wonderful as it was on our May cruise - that was so perfect!

Sorry the cat got out of the bag.

Let me let you in on a little secret I found out about upgrading at the port. Trying to upgrade at the port from any Cat. lower than a 9 is very costly. Next time start with a Cat. 9 then upgrading to a Cat. 4 is only about $350.- $375. That is if they have anything available.

Have a great cruise:wave:

Sorry that your surprise was ruined. I surprised my sister with a cruise last December (our combined birthdays) and it was priceless seeing her face the morning I told her about it.

As for hoping for an upgrade why not? I won my cruise and being such an ingrate hoped for an upgrade too! What harm does it do to hope for something better. I didn't hear you demanding anything from DCL. They were right to have compensated you generously for your missed cruise. I too had that happen and Carnival gave me all my money back, 50% discount on a future cruise and $100 (which we promptly spent on ship). Were we disappointed in the fact that the cruise never left the port - of course. Did we bad mouth the cruise line - of course not. Instead we enjoyed the 1-1/2 days we got and told everyone how much fun we had on our "cruise to nowhere" I think both cruiselines know how much word of mouth helps or hurts them and rightfully so make sure that even bad experiences have a pleasant turn of events.

Enjoy your cruise and surprise your wife with a visit to the jewelry store on island:p
