Well I got my Prozac, now I'm scared to take it.

There is a lot of bad stuff on the internet about this drug! But all the Doctor's seem to think it is so helpful. I suppose I should trust the doctors more than the internet...but still, looking at this tiny green capsule, I am scared!

But if it makes things better that would be very good. Does anyone else take Prozac? and what is it like?

I took Prozac for 18 months after a horrible separation from my ex, job change, finding out my son (age 15) was on drugs, etc.

It really helped, along with counseling. The side effects that I first noticed were sweating and that it kept me awake (so I took it first thing in the morning). It doesn't take away the problems, but it does help you to cope and work on them.

Plus, the internet warnings -- they were mainly for doctors who weren't monitoring their patients closely. I'm a pharmacist in a mental health facility and we've used a lot of Prozac with no problems.

It does take six weeks or so to completely "kick in", but you'll notice a change at 3 to 4 weeks. Be patient and if Prozac doesn't work -- there are several other anti-depressants to try.

I've taken it before. I don't like the initial side effects but most people will not be bothered by them. Watch what you read on the internet. It'll tell you that a hangnail is cancerous.

My father started taking it a couple of weeks ago to handle the depression he was in after his wife died. He quit taking it yesterday, because he couldn't take the side effects. He is 80 though, so he might have had some issues with his other medications interacting with it.

I took it for awhile after we learned my DH's cancer had returned and I was having an awful time accepting it..

It helped immensely - WITH counseling - but I'm extremely drug sensitive and ended up having to go off of it.. Not because of any "horrible" side effects, but even at the lowest dose it made me SOOOOO physically tired I could do NOTHING but lay on my bed all day long.. They even tried having me take it every other day and my body just couldn't handle it..

What REALLY sucked about the whole thing is that the Prozac worked WONDERS for my migraines and my irritable bowel syndrome!!

And it does take 6 to 8 weeks before you start to feel better.. I tracked it on a calendar and it was EXACTLY 6 weeks to the day and I remember waking up that morning feeling like suddenly someone had turned the lights back on..

Give it a try, but just be sure to report any unusual side effects right away..

If you can tolerate it, I think it's probably the BEST antidepressant available today..

I wouldn't see why not because unless you're particularly drug sensitive like I am there would be no noticeable effects that would impair your judgement or ability to carry out your duties.. It's not like a narcotic - where you feel high - or fioricet - where you feel drunk and stumble around..

Heck - Benadryl would be more of a concern than Prozac - LOL..

I take Lexapro, which is similar to prozac. Depression runs in my family. I lead a totally normal life, work, exercise, go to events it's like taking nothing. I have no side effects. If you do, they probably will only last a few weeks.
