Well, here we go. I know I am a novice at this and nowhere near the expert as TCD but I hope it turns out ok.

Day 1:
We had our camper packed Tuesday evening in hopes for a early departure on Wednesday. It's such a long hour and 10 minute trip, but the kids seem to do just fine. Our Fort ritual is to have breakfast at the Cracker Barrel on I-4 just outside of Tampa. As you can see the kids are ready for pancakes
100_1471.jpg

Nothing says breakfast like Cracker barrel
100_1469.jpg

....Getting closer
100_1474.jpg

....Ah, finally here
100_1476.jpg

We always like checking in during the week since it's a lot faster and less people. We are also lucky to be able to get our site before noon. Take a look at the neat camper ahead of us. I think it's called a T@Da, must be a brother of the T@B. I thought the color was great.
100_1477.jpg

100_1478.jpg

There was no one waiting at the outpost check in and we had the most friendly cast member we ever had. She was almost begging us to stay and chat so she wouldn't be bored. She went on and on about things to do at the fort. She seemed to take a lot of pride in her job. Don't ask me here name. We were unfortunate to get a booth on the right side of the truck and I couldn't see the name tag that far.

We were lucky to get our favorite loop 800 and ended up with site 849. It was on the inside of the loop and turned out to be great. Here is the begining of the set up and the final product.

100_1481.jpg

100_1484.jpg

Notice our "new" green mickey ears?

As you all know, there was many decorations out and about. This was an awsome display right across from out site.
100_1487.jpg

After setting up, it was off to the playground. My daughter likes the "doggie Park playground" as she refers to the one next to the dog park.
100_1494.jpg

After the playground it was back to base camp to have fun with the kids and walk the loop. You gotta love the happy camper shirts. They wear them them the first day of all out trips. Only a couple more trips and then they will grow out of them
100_1503.jpg

100_1505.jpg

Now it was Dads turn to cruise some loops. How ironic I should run into another Herbie. I think this was the one that was spotted during the 4th of July. I pulled over and chatted with the owner for a while. He stated his name was Paul and he worked for Hollywood studios at the stunt show. It was kind cool to see an older Herbie and my newer one. Of course we had to argue who had the idea first...lol I still think mine takes the cake
100_1514.jpg

100_1512.jpg

After speaking with paul I drove to the marina for some random shots. I have to agree with TCD, the new sign at the Settlement trading post is bad. When you compare it to the old sign or God forbid the old, old sign with the nearby todem poles, this one stinks.
100_1509.jpg

I also figured I better get a pic of these spots since they will soon be gone forever. This has to be the biggest musket mickey that is still at the Fort
100_1498.jpg

100_1508.jpg

Now this was something new to me. Do you notice this new fence at the beach? I don't even remember the seawall going out that far. I wonder if someone got hurt to provoke them to put this new fence up. Knowning Disney, they spent the money just to take it down in a few months
100_1497.jpg

Here is the famous site in the 100 loop that goes all out. Many of you know here but I never met her yet. Not so sure about the Saints player though...lol Just kidding
100_1510.jpg

After the marina it was a trip out by the group tent area where I ran into some of the locals
100_1519.jpg

and whats a trip report with out a shot of the bat boxes. A lot of people have no idea what these are since I always drive by guest staring at them scratching thier heads
100_1521.jpg

For some reason I was drawn to signs I have never saw before. I thought this one was very interesting and one you don't see everyday. I need to post this pic at the employee bullitin board at work and see if my employees can relate...lol Can anyone guess where this is?
100_1520.jpg

Well, here is a few closing shots for day 1. Tomorrow is breakfast at the lodge, a trip to the Contemporary and MNSSHP
100_1527.jpg

We saw you on your golf cart! Ya'll were driving, though, and I wasn't completely sure who it was on here with the Herbie cart.

My brother and his family were in site 871. They had a red 80's Suburban with a pop-up.

Glad that ya'll had a great time!

You have the best Herbie cart. I know I have told you that before.

You are off to a great start.

I can rest easy now, I was on the lookout for your cart and saw the "other" cart a few times riding around. I'm glad I didn't track him down.

Looks like you had a great trip.

Keep em coming.

I saw you breaking down Sunday but looked like you were busy and didn't want to bother you. I'm not so sure the other Herbie was the one there on the 4th. I think it was a 4 seater. There was a 30'ish looking lady driving with a couple kids. They had a pop up in the 2000 loop IIRC.

You're report is going great. Keep it coming. TCD is highly overrated lol. Just kidding Andrew but you're getting some good competition these days.

Your doing a great job, i really needed this life has sucked lately.
Thank You
itch

Wow!

This is great so far.

My thoughts/comments/questions related to your first post:

1. Excellent photography and narrative!

2. Stacktester is 100% correct- TCD is highly overrated.

3. Your Herbie > The Other Herbie. By far!

4. Do you haul your Herbie in your toy-hauler? If so, that's awesome!

5. You have cute kids! I love the t-shirts.

6. Congrats on getting a good site on the 800 loop. If I remember correctly, you didn't like your last assignment.

7. Have you ever camped in nicer weather?

8. See my comments below regarding a couple of your photos.

9. Keep up the good work.

This is very interesting.

I took this photo on Sunday, October 3, 2010:

Your photo is dated October 6, 2010.

The netting shown in your photo was not there on the 3rd.

So, your photo really does show something new.

Hmmmm.

You have me stumped on this one.

I don't remember seeing that sign, either.

Based on where you took the photos immediately preceding this one, I am going to guess that this sign was around the small fenced-in maintenance area behind the 1100 loop comfort station.

So, you're the owner of the Love Bug! You were driving behind us one day and we loved your cart. The cart in front of ours was a Disney one with a Mom and two little kids on the back. The kids kept telling us that we had a cool cart (it's a lifted red EZ-Go that I had added black vinyl Mickey heads on the front and side...nothing fancy). We kept telling them to check out the one behind ours (your Love Bug), but by the time they figured out what we were talking about, you had turned into the 800 loop and they missed you. I hope they got a chance to check out your ride before they left...we thought it was very cool!

I saw the Suburban down the road. They seemed pretty quiet all week

Thanks, I get a lot of compliments and show up in a lot of family albums with this cart. I am proud of myself how it turned out. The wife keeps saying I need to put a for sale sign on it everytime we go...lol

We had a great trip. Seemed like we keep missing each other. Now you know my cart :)

You should have stopped. I saw no Disers on this trip. Your always welcome to stop
Fun stuff! Your kiddos are adorable. :)
Thank you, I have to enjoy them while thier this age
Great pics! Looking forward to more.
... More to come

* Thanks for the good job:woohoo:
* Herbie fits perfect in the new trailer. That was one of the must haves when buying the new trailer
* We love the happy camper shirts. It's now a tradition until they outgrow them
* The weather was awsome. 62 the low for the first night. We couldn't ask for better
* I thought the netting was new. I'm sure every trip report from here forward will have new things to see
* This sign was posted on the road for cast members only past the group tent area. Crossing the "forbidden zone" to take pics of the deer it was for the cast members entering the guest area. Something you don't see often

Now you know who I am, just yell "hey Dave" :)

Starbuc, one excellent TR! Wishing your family many years of great fort fun.

Thanks for sharing. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Allrighty, the Rays game is over and my team lost 5-1 to the Texas Rangers. It was great season though..... on with the TR

Day 2:

Unfortunatley I was not able to sleep in on my first day of vacation due to 2 things. First, my 2yo woke up at 6:30am ready for some breakfast and a serving of playhouse Disney. Second, we had reservations at the Whispering Canyon for breakfast at 9am. Another great cool morning to wake up to.
100_1530.jpg

Once the kids were dressed (and of course the parents), we were ready to go. The kids love the golf cart and get excited every morning

100_1534.jpg

100_1533.jpg

We decided this morning to park Herbie by the bus depot by the horse barn and walk the trail to the lodge since it was such a beautiful cool morning
I had to get a nice morning pic of the barn since it will disappear very soon
100_1536.jpg

Here we are starting down the trail. All but quiet except for 2 quick joggers
100_1535.jpg

I knew we would see some more locals. This is a great trail to watch all sorts of wildlife
100_1538.jpg

My daughter always loves to be first in line
100_1537.jpg

I know these vines take over everything and can actually ruin an ecosystem, I believe they may be called potato vines, but I am always amazed by the beauty they can have incertian areas. For some strange reason this reminds us of Jurassic Park (don't know why, but the wife and I agree)
100_1539.jpg

Almost there, Another sign that I found interesting. Whoa!
100_1540.jpg

Ah... the Wilderness Lodge in all it's glory. This one of my favorite resorts. I have never stayed there since I think the prices are rediculous, but I love the feel and look. It's almost like your not in FL anymore.
100_1541.jpg

Were seated very promptly at Whispering Canyon and the fun with the kids at a restaurant had begun
100_1543.jpg

100_1544.jpg

100_1547.jpg

Finally my daughter is old enough to take place in the whispering canyon pony ride. Every time we have come in the past she was always to little. This year she rocked!
100_1550.jpg

...and whats a trip to the Lodge without a pic of the geyser, although I have yet to see it errupt.
100_1554.jpg

We decided to take the boat back and since we had some time to burn before going to the MNSSHP, we thought we would hit the contemporary. We had to take the long way by stopping at the fort first
100_1555.jpg

As we were waiting for the boat, we noticed a fishing excursion to our left. Looked like a good spot in the grass. When we entered the boat, it was too late to catch the pic of the large bass the boy caught
100_1556.jpg

Here we are leaving the lodge dock. Looks like our driver was in for a long day since he had his luggage packed
100_1557.jpg

Here's your classic RC pic that every Diser takes a pic of when passing. I'm sure everybodys shot is nearly identical
100_1561.jpg

Here we are coming up to the dock at fort. Here is also another good shot of the new netting and fence installed at the beach
100_1563.jpg

100_1564.jpg

100_1566.jpg

Next, it's off to the contemporary.......more to come for day 2

100_1541.jpg

We just saw WL for the first time last month. We were both really impressed with how overall it really does look like you've left Florida but if you narrow in on specific trees, you see so many that are common, even palmettos.

Can't wait to see more of your TR. :) Though I keep holding my hand over the screen and squinting and scrolling past everyone's MNSSHP pics! We've never been and I'm trying to stay surprised by some stuff. :D

Allrighty, the Rays game is over and my team lost 5-1 to the Texas Rangers. It was great season though.....

Yes, that was a bit of a disappointment.

Especially after the Rays forced this 5th game by winning two on the road!

And, we can't really say that there's always next year. :(

Anyway, you are continuing to do a great job on this report.

We have biked the trail to WL many times.

And, back in the day, I used to jog it.

And, don't tell anyone, but I have been known to drive it via golf cart late at night.

But, we have never walked it.

I don't know why I never thought about the fact that this could be a one-way proposition, and that we could boat or bus back.

The next time I'm at the Fort, and the weather is nice, the TCD gang is going for a walk!

Also, I always thought the resort boats went clockwise in the AM and counter-clockwise in the PM. But your boat didn't. Maybe I have been wrong about this all this time? :confused3

Looking forward to more!

TCD

I wonder if the locals in your picture know how lucky they are? I mean, I doubt they have a "deer" Dis Discussion Board, so it's probably difficult for them to compare relative venue's across the property. I'm sure the locals at OKW speak of ready access to water, but are concerned about the little white spheres which can rudely interrupt their grazing. I also wonder if some of them have wondered off property to check out some of the other Non Disney camping venues? Hmmmm............

Oh ya. The trip report is totally awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
