SO I took Kate to school today ( we originally thought we could do both daycare and the Y well it wont be neccesary) I went expecting to fill out all the paperwork when I got there, you know shot records, birth certificate, etc etc etc. I asked when I got there and they said "nope thats not neccesary" I said " well heres my phone number if theres a problem" They didnt have any of the information on hand. ( my dd is four remember) she said " oh whatever"
It was MASS chaos when we got there kids running everywhere but Kates class seemed to be ok so I went against my better judgement and left her because the teacher was so nice.

When I went to pick her up I asked her what she did and she was very noncomittal. I had to ask specific questions to get anything out of her. Normally in Church she chatters on and on about what they did in class. Today nothing! I finally got out of her that they sang a couple of songs, played puppets and ate something green that she didnt know what it was.

I took her over to my neighbours house and asked her if she could get any other news because usually Kate will tell her everything thats going on in her life. same thing. Rane said "Kate did you like school?" and Kate said " yeah" Rane said " do you want to go back?" and Kate said " NO I want to stay home" This is REALLY unusual for her she normally LOVES to go to class.

Anyway, so her lack of enthusiasm combined with the lack of security I decided to take her out of class.

I think its the best at this point.

just thought Id give you all an update :)

Binny, it sounds to me that you did the right thing.

That is just plain WRONG!

binny - you have definitely made the right decision.. My DD took my granddaughter out of a day care center based on a "gut feeling" and it was the best thing she could have done.. Shortly thereafter they were SHUT DOWN for all sorts of violations that they kept very well hid..

Follow your mother's intuition and you'll never go wrong..

I agree - that doesn't sound right at all.

My kids have never attended any kind of daycare, school, or after school care that didn't require shot records, insurance info, doctor's names....permission to treat in an emergency....usually an hours worth of paperwork.

Was this place liscensed?

Was this place liscensed?

Thats the other thing that wasnt right. the daycare is liscensed I checked them out completely and I was led to believe that this was part of the daycare buut ACTUALLY she is just using their space and teaching out of there. When I went back in to ask about paperwork ( giving the benefit of the doubt that during the craziness of the morning they just werent aware that they didnt have her paperwork) the secretary told me all of that and said "well here just fill out your contact info on an index card so we know how to reach you"

HUH???????

I dont THINK so!!!!

Now I feel bad that I left her!

I am the Assistant Supervisor in a daycare in Canada (I know are ratios are a lot different then those in the USA) but I have to tell you that if you have a BAD feeling then maybe there is a reason for it. Trust your instincts. I don't know how many parents take their children out of my daycare only to have them begging for their space back. I had one just recently who took her son out of my room in the beginning of Ausgust now he is coming back the beginning of September. All her son would talk about was me. THey never greeted him at the door, and he brought his "baby" with him, which I have never seen in the year he was in my care. It just goes to show...the mom was trusting her instinct and took him out of the other centre, and now he will be back in my care. Rember these are your children you know what is best for them, if it doesn't feel right, it usually isn't.

Sounds like you've made the right decision. Can't imagine them having you not fill out any paper work.

You definitely did the right thing, in this case. Don't let that sour you on all daycare, or especially a pre school. My DD went to preschool at one of our local church schools that offered daycare afterwards. It was wonderful, and she was MORE than ready for kindergarten the next year! Perhaps you can find something that will be better for her!

I worked for a very small...state licensed preschool in PA for 5 years and your paperwork consisted of a index card with emergency phone #'s....

We were very good and exceptionally caring my Director just was into the family atmosphere that we had and didn't need the extra paperwork....

What about medicals, escort list, ....? How did the director know if the kids shots were up to date?

Yikes, Binny! I think you did the right thing.

My kids went to daycare, to the same lady since they were babies. She not only had us fill out a mound of paperwork, but that paperwork had to be updated every 6 months or so. She always explained it was required by law for licensed day care providers.

A Mom instinctively knows what is good for her child & what is not. Following your gut is the best choice in a sitution like this. You did the right thing!
