And we booked at Disneyland instead! We were able to cancel everything including flights for our Aug 15 vacation.
Thank you to our Dreams Unlimited agent for helping me!
Hoping we made the right decision here, we can also cancel everything (non stop flights from Toronto to Lax) except I think if we cancel the hotel now Disney will keep $200.
I don’t know ANYTHING about Disneyland, like nothing.
We need to make park reservations I think and figure stuff out.
Have I lost my mind?
To be honest it was my hubby still pushing to go somewhere. He probably would have gone to Florida but last couple of days just took all the joy out of planning for me.

The latest # for Florida just got released (much later than usual). Each should reach their own conclusion. For my part, I am comfortable with my decision to cancel a trip to Orlando that was supposed to start today. I looked at the # for under 12s for both new cases and deaths, and compared with the printout I had from last week and there were changes in both categories. Looking at this week's number, I also have a sense as to whether Florida might be near the peak or not.

Good luck with Disneyland. I have been 3 times - last time was two weeks before they shut down in March 2020. Different vibe than WDW as it is more compact with the two parks side by side. What you'd be missing vs WDW would be the Animal Kingdom and Epcot vibe - and the Florida humidity! The Downtown Disney area is also much more compact... but the beauty is that if staying on site, transportation is not really necessary once there, so this is one less "risk" - as you will not need to board a crowded bus to the parks.

I will miss Epcot as it’s my fav park and we also love AK. On the other hand, we knew one day we’d try Disneyland.
We have a Disney world trip planned for Christmas as well, of course who knows with anything.
I know Disneyland is not without any risk, really any travel isn’t right now and probably won’t be for another year. That’s when it comes to covid of course, because let’s be real, travel is never risk-free as it is.
For this trip, we hope to walk most places and so the compact size will be nice, especially since we booked the Disneyland Hotel.
I just don’t know what I need to do next! Haha
We leave on Aug 17 and it’s for 6 nights.

Oh, I think you will be really happy with your decision! The weather will be nicer and it will be fun to explore new parks! We went many years ago and I’d love to go back to Disneyland sometime. I also cancelled our Aug WDW trip and we’re going to Vancouver instead. I can’t wait to hear about your trip!

Have a great trip! You’re there just a bit before us. We’re there Sept 1-4.

Eeek! I'm excited for you!!! I'm glad that you were able to make the changes. Can't wait to hear how it all goes, I'm hoping to be back at Disneyland mid-November with my bff and our two 13 yr olds (leaving the unvaxxed kids at home with the dads).

We did DLR for our very first time in July. Sunny every day with low humidity. Much less walking overall. Lots of new/different attractions to explore. We had a great time!
Honestly haven’t even thought about the weather but you’re right!
We have typically gone to Disney World in August and the weather is probably my least favourite thing. From the super high humidity to a lot of rain and ponchos sticking to our skin lol. We live in Sw Ontario where it often feels like 40 with the humidity in the summer but walking around in the parks all day... yeah it’s oppressive.
I hope we enjoy it, I’m still a bit nervous but once again looking forward to it.

Well, one thing that will be unique is the new "Marvel Campus". California Adventures has become a really nice park over the years...

So today's numbers are really bad ? 😢

I hope this posts doesn't get deleted for violating posting guidelines - looks like things are a bit looser in this forum than the main forums... Things are getting worse, especially for kids under 12 where on a population adjusted basis, they are up 33% since last week. Death is rare in this age group, but there was one more last week. Other age groups are faring better though as overall case growth is less than 20%, which is much less than the 50% case growth from the previous week.

Now, you could also conclude that the slower case growth is an indication that the peak is near... or that Florida's capacity testing has been maxed out, as case positivity remains fairly strong.

All in though, on a 7-day basis, you still have less than 1% of the population being reported as new cases of COVID-19

We LOVE Disneyland and the Disneyland Hotel! Everything is within walking distance and the attractions are terrific. You will have a wonderful time!
Thank you! I’m having a hard time picturing it all in my head, like the walking distance part!

You have not lost your mind... unless I've also lost mine. 😂 We will be one day ahead of you... leaving from Toronto on the 14th! Also a last minute decision to switch from WDW to DL. We will hopefully finalize hotels tonight.

Looking forward to : beautiful weather, longer park hours, being able to walk from a hotel to parks, discovering new attractions and possibly more reasonable crowds. 😆

Oh that’s awesome :)
We were going to Disney world on the 15th, but Disneyland we are leaving on the 17th. 6 nights instead of 7 as we had wdw.
I have to sit down later and make our park reservation, figure out where to test now and how to get to the resort from Lax... all those things!
Trying not to get too excited since I know plans can change these days. Never did I think we’d be changing coasts!
What are your dates?

There is a CVS on West Katella that offers drive-through PCR testing, with 1-2 days turnaround. This is 2 miles from the resort - but will definitely need a vehicle as this is not a walk-in test. Right now, they are booked solid until Tuesday of this week, and are accepting bookings until August 19. The other option would be to go through Westjet or AirCanada if flying with either of them to have one of those "at home" test from one of their partners shipped to your hotel for testing a few days ahead. The one risk with this approach is that if the test is damaged somehow through shipping, you may not have enough time for a turnaround. LAX also offers PCR tests with a turnaround time of 1 to 24 hours

I love Disneyland, and I plan to get back there…eventually. (I haven’t been since 2015) Trips to WDW have just sort of taken over. (I have actually been to both an equal number of trips…but my last 6 have been WDW)

I’m happy my trip to WDW is not until end of September. I’m really hoping this wave has run its course by then.

We have gone to WDW every year since 2012 (not 2020 or 2021 so far) but it’s a 2 hr flight and 19 hr drive if you go non-stop (which we don’t do anymore). Never been to Disneyland.
If school wasn’t in session in September we’d try to reschedule but we don’t want to take Ds12 out of school and travel until things settle down more with covid. He’s fully vaccinated but I don’t want any issues coming back. Our next trip after august will be Disney world from Dec 19-26 - but if things are much better by November, we may move that up to earlier December. We also have a cruise mid January and I’m not even sure we will be able to go on that!
Anyway, I have a feeling your end of September trip will be fine, I can see FL peaking soon and then cases falling.
Fingers crossed for all!

I was planning either CVS or Walgreen’s for testing but neither can guarantee results in time for travel and most don’t offer the rapid tests that I could find. I’m planning to do our testing at the Anaheim City Hall. They’re not cheap but have options for testing at different price points. We’re planning on doing the PCR with results in 24hours. They also have a 1 hour PCR and a 1 hour ID Now NAAT test.
