Well, after about 15 years of mulling it over we finally bought in.

We have gone to Disney yearly for over 15 years and not being folks to rush into things (haha) we finally are buying 50 points at BWV resale (our 2nd favorite resort). Our kids are in college but still love Disney too so we'll make good use of our points.

Disney we know like the back of our hand but regarding DVC this forum and the info provided by all of you were invaluable. Many thanks. We don't have our 50 points in our pocket as of yet but we did pass ROFR.

Like we do most things we'll try it for a while and probably eventually buy a few more contracts.

50 points is not that much, but it gets you into the club. I am sure you will be adding more.

Congrats

Congrats! We love our DVC membership and it was a great decision.

Here's to many great trips in your future with DVC:goodvibes

Congrats on your purchase .

Serious question , I hope it doesn't come of the wrong way . But do you regret not buying when you first started mulling it over ?

My reason for asking is due to inflation even if you had financed your purchase even 10 years ago you would likely had more points for cheaper price . Plus all the cash you spent on rooms throughout the years could have when to the purchase price .

My parents kick themselves every day over this. She wanted to buy in, in 1992. But told herself she didn't want to spend the money. I can tell you she does regret not doing it sooner.

ETA... OP... oops! Congrats!!!!!! (forgot that part LOL)

If you don't regret waiting so long, you will soon! We had a reservation with a guide 10 years before we bought and we cancelled it. I just couldn't get past not having daily maid service. Ten years later we finally bought, and after one stay I loved not having daily maid service and regretted not buying sooner. Welcome home!

I assumed this is the case . My point here is that financing (that is shunned upon on this site ) is not such a bad thing seeing how fast DVC prices climb.

Congrats on your purchase. We also have gone to Disney at least twice a year for decades and never bought in - 2 going through college and grad school really puts a dent in the finances!! We just got cleared from Disney on our 2 contracts for BW. We have a total of 410 points each year and can't wait to be able to start using them - closing documents can't come fast enough. We are just waiting to be able to book our trip for next Aug. - hope we won't have a problem getting a preferred view 2 bedroom since we are under the 11 months but still well ahead of the 7 month window.

Hi - We know about it. I drove by in while being in Hawaii earlier in the year. It looks fantastic. I would not want to buy there because we wouldn't visit Hawaii very often so making it a home resort probably doesn't make sense. I imagine one day we'll use some points there though.

Hi - no problem asking. Gosh no I don't have any regrets. I was more comfortable without the financial obligation while we were saving for college and eventual retirement etc. We put those #1 and #2 and didn't risk them for a vacation club. Now that we can see the light at the end of the college tunnel I have less fears about tying up a little $. We look at money in terms of accomplished goals verses actual $ amounts (if this makes sense). We saved for college and got to go to Disney when we wanted so both goals were met. I am also not convinced DVC actually saves you any money - it might but it's not cut and dry.

Not buying Walmart stock in 1986 when advised by a family friend to do so. Why didn't I? Well, I had never heard of this company before and thought "how in the heck is some new company from Arkansas going to compete against Kmart." Kmart was killing everybody then (Sears etc). I thought this was a "loser" idea. If I would have put extra cash in this I would be buying 500 points instead of 50 (haha). This one dwarfs any DVC purchase I have (or have not) decided on.

Congrats on the 410 points. We are hoping to spend part of each year in FL when we retire. We have been mulling over the possibility of spending Jan and Feb right at Disney. The 50 points we bought is a test run as much as anything. There is an attractive side of that in that you don't have a home or condo to worry about (which we are also looking into). With 410 points I was wondering if you were thinking the same thing.

Welcome Home on your next planned visit! We toured and bought back in 1993 while the kids were still at home. Now it depends on everyone's schedule...but I enjoy it on my own also. With the points...you "have your foot in the door" for DVC access...so many happy Disney Memories to come!
