Has anyone been lately? How is it? Is it worth taking the time to go?

Well, their still playing Jeopardy, if that's what you mean. (as of early January)

I've always found this to be nothing more than a sales pitch to add on more points! I'd rather spend my time playing in the parks.

Well, let's see. A couple of the prizes they were giving away for the raffle were pretty good - dinner gift certificate to one of the places at DTD (can't remember for which restaurant) and a couple of voucher's for a free photo session. Other than that, the raffle gifts were not very exciting - cd, hat, tote bag I think. Stuff like that. The reason we went was because we had heard that they give hats out to all the DVC members at the end. That didn't happen. Instead, we were given a "vacation planner" which was a 12-page notebook that I personally had no use for. They also gave out bags of popcorn and crackerjacks and had lemonade. So, I guess I'm saying that I wouldn't recommend leaving a park early to rush over to this event. For us, we did it once and have no desire to do it again - even with the chance to win the more interesting prizes. Then again, if we had won something (or even got the DVC hat), I'd probably have better things to say about it. ;)

If you happen to be at the Boardwalk when they do this, it is a nice place to sit down, relax, and be entertained. I don't think it is worth a special trip to the Boardwalk for it.

Has anyone heard whether Disney is planning on doing something similar out in California once VCG opens up?

We went last month. We went once before and thought it was pretty lame. This time we had no intention of going, but as we returned to our hotel at about 3:50 we saw the long line outside and decided "What the heck, we'll get a free hat." We don't carry our blue cards around so I made DH run up to the room to get them, only to find out they will let you in with the room key that says "DVC Member" on it. Again, I would not recommend rearranging your schedule to go to it. It wasn't any better than the last time. We didn't win anything, but at least we got the free hats.

permavac...When did you only get the planner? I would not have been happy to waste my time for that. Thanks for letting us know about that. Would it kill them to give out the hats? We will definitely be avoiding it next month.

We've attended during the last 3 or 4 times we were there. We happen to be one of those that enjoy it. We've received some really nice gifts for attending, 2 different kind of DVC hats and great soft backpacks. Blue with mesh bottoms. I answered one of the questions one time and received a DVC 15 pin which was nice also. We're going to miss attending the next time we're there but will catch up again in the fall.

We were there on 2/4/09. Not sure why we didn't get the hat. It's funny because afterwards we went to look at the BWV models and gave the planners that we received to the salesperson there (we realized we didn't want them and she said she could probably get rid of them for us). She even told us that she always knows it's WHW because she sees streams of DVCers walking past wearing their new hats. I will tell you that it was packed inside and my DH and I had to sit upstairs. Maybe they didn't have enough hats for all of us? Not sure since I'd never been before. One "lucky" raffle winner did receive a hat though ;)

We went last Wednesday 2/25 in hopes of getting a hat, as we had read previously that they usually give them out. No such luck! They gave a planner that we have no use for!:confused3 We were dissapointed, but the gentleman running the show was pretty funny!:lmao:

If you happen to be at the boardwalk roaming around at that time, then I'd go, otherwise, just skip it!

Thanks for sharing your recent experiences. I was thinking of going just for the hat, but now I think we'd rather spend that hour hanging out by the pool instead.

When we went in October we got a blue hat, which I wear. Other then that I prefer the old days where they told you of the future plans, ask everyone trivia questions and give out lots of gifts.

We are new to DVC and we are looking forward to checking it out in August! We are planning a meal at ESPN Club so it'll work out well! :lovestruc

You have to go at least once ;) When we were there in November they were once again offering the DVC hat (different than the one that we had received in March 2007. In March of 2008 they were giving the nylon backpacks which are really nice.

We've never been ... but were thinking about going next time, however, my MIL may be joining us on our next trip ... so if she's not a "card-carrying member," we wouldn't be able to bring her with us?

I don't think your MIL would have a hard time getting in. My DH carries his card and that's the one that we use to get in with. I don't carry mine. I have my resort card which states that I'm a DVC member if there was any question. My adult kids have been to WHW. They used their resort cards for entry. They were staying on our points at the time. They have since bought into DVC..
