Ok I know I've seen postings before but didn't pay that close attention until now since we are going as dvc members for the first time next month!:cool1: I've read that those welcome home wednesdays are good to go to once. Since this is our "first" time I don't know if we will be broken of the commando style we are use to. Therefore, I am trying to decide whether its worth giving up an afternoon to attend one of these events?! Are they held every Wednesday? Where can we find out times, etc? Have you all gone?? Will the dds (12 & 6) be entertained? So many questions!! :scared1: Thanks!!

This is our first trip "home" and we arrive on a Wed. AM so we are planning to attend our first day. No comando for us as we want to enjoy the resort and relax as much as we can. Also our first day we need to get our APs and TiW card. We have all week to do the parks.

In April we are going home for the second time and am definetly going to Welcome Home Wednesday. No commando touring here... If we miss something at the Parks we'll just do it during our F&W trip in October. Isn't DVC great?

I certainly don't want to offend anyone who truly enjoys Welcome Home Wednesdays . . . But on our recent trip we stayed at BWV, and DH decided to take the kids to WHW to give me some time to tidy up, get dinner started, etc. (We're not commando park-goers.) :-) Let's just say he won't be attending again. I cannot speak for myself, because obviously I wasn't there, but he said it was definitely not great for the kids. (Ours are 5 and 3.) They did get some sort of coloring book. But mostly DH said it was a game-show type thing, with people sitting around answering questions about DVC. Great for those who enjoy that type of thing! Just not for us. He actually said it made him feel weird about being DVC owners - that he felt quite out of place there.

I sure do wish I had gone so I could have seen for myself! Just wanted to pass along this toughts, for what they're worth . . .

Did DVC give anything out? Hats or something? We're going home to AKV in May - checking in on Wed. and planned on attending.

I went once, in May, it was hot out, and I was staying at BCV, it was the day I checked in. There were refreshments, lemonade and bags of chips. They played a game, people won prizes, and some of the audience got picked for prizes. They did try to keep the kids interested, picked kids to answer questions. We got a very nice DVC member hat when we were leaving.

If it were hot out, and I was staying around the Boardwalk, I might go again. I'm staying at BWV in March, (with 4 friends) and I don't think I'm going to even mention it to them. Well, maybe if one of them says how nice my hat is!;)

I'd like to go....for the hat! Hopefully they give one to every member of the family!

Thanks Bobbi!

Wife and I went Feb 1 thru 6th and brought my brother and sister-inlaw....game show format some prizes were handed out.....lemonaid/water... popcorn and cracker jacks. At the end they gave out DVC calenders. I can relate to "weird feel" of the get together. Some people seemed to enjoy it. Wife and I will probably spend our time elsewhere in the future. That being said i went hoping to get a hat...got the calendar, but gave it to my inlaw.... lastly though we did take my brother to the DVC open house for the tour and got $15 dollar gift cards along with them and was given the 2008 DVC xmas ornament....woo hoo

We went and we got hats. I have hats I like to wear and the DVC hat didn't make the cut.

As far as the program goes...if you happen to be at the Boardwalk when they do it, it is a nice place to sit down to relax for an hour or so. I wouldn't make a trip to the Boardwalk just for this.

We have been a couple of times and received baseball caps. Including the ones we got on a cruise we have white, navy blue and beige. The show and questions were exactly the same both times and we each got a DVC pin for a correct answer. I wouldn't take a day out of your plan to attend - you'll be disappointed. It was a 1 hour, air conditioned break during an Epcot day for us since it was easily walked. My teens don't want to go again.

For some reason it has become a "must go" for my family. Even the kids love it since they know most of the answers and hope to get a chance.

So far, I think everyone in our family has won a prize except for DH.

I was a contestant and won a fold up camp stool with built in cooler.

DS14 won the "grand door prize" in January and we won a beautiful wooden scrap/photo album and a personal photo session.

DD10 has won a 15th anniversary pin for answering a question correctly.

We have received 2 different hats. This January we just got the calendar.

OH you were lucky!

During the week of Jan. 25th, DH & I went with my parents for the DVC tour at SSR.

Both of my parents got $15.00 gift cards. DH & I did not get anything. And we did not see any Xmas ornaments.

......your vacation time is too valuable. For the sake of efficiency: if the DVC info they need to convey to us is so URGENT, then give it to us in a MEMO, rather than waste our vacation time. It is a SALES PITCH. they give you lemonade & chips. The "game-show" is slow-moving and transparent of the purpose of asking you trivia questions about DVC benefits & why you should buy more points from them that day. The kids see right through it, it is NO FUN for them, they get bored/frustrated quickly. P.S.-the money for these DVC SALES PROMOTIONS does not come from trees...it comes from you & my dues: so get your lemonade & chips and leave! You can stop by later at the the front desk & they'll give you your "free" hat. ...go for it...your dues paid for it. It is what it is.

IMO it's just like any other group or organization. People with like interests getting together. I think it's great. Whether you "get something" or not should'nt make or break your visit.

We don't tour the parks commando style so on some days a late breakfast at the Captain's Galley then strolling over to WHW sounds relaxing.

PP I do see your point though if I was in the Magic Kingdom I would not leave to go to WHW. I think those of us that have been to WDW many times and have done everything in the Parks enjoy doing "other things' occaisionally.

I for one would be disapointed if the discountined WHW. Then we would have to read the thread "Look What DVC Took Away Now".:lmao:

I couldn't have said it better!
