Do people typically go to these? Are they any good, or are they more of a sales/add-on call? This is the first trip we are making where we could actually make one, but is it a waste of precious DIsney time?

I would appreciate any info on these events!

Thanks.

We had our first dvc stay in March. We went to welcome home wednesdays and it was fun. It's not a sales pitch. It was a kind of game show, with a door prize (some gift baskets). There was lemonade, and smart pop and cracker jack. It's not a "must see", but we (me and ds13) thought it was fun. It's only about 40 minutes. Everyone got a dvc baseball cap at the end.

We certainly have not "typically" gone, but I haven't been at WDW for many Wednesdays! I have decided to go to the one on April 30th. I'll be solo for a few days, at the BCV, so it will be a short walk over, and I'll be sure to give my opinion :) when I get back!

if you're bored, or it's raining & you don't feel like getting too wet, or going back to the room or shopping, etc, it's okay. as others have said, they offer a free DVC visor, lemonade & popcorn, as well as a few prizes.
we found once was enough (otoh, the "summer party" at PI was a "do not miss" ).
hth:)

We went last year and it was OK - if you have the time. I would not consider this as a 'not to miss event'. Kind of hokey really. On a very hot and humid day it's a nice respite from the outdoor weather and they provide refreshments plus a few prizes and everyone left with a new ball cap.:)

I went in January ... and thought it was a complete waste of time. Too much "rah-rah" and no new information. There was no Q&A and nothing was mentioned of changes announced in Dec's annual meeting (free internet, II short stays, etc).

Edited to add: Don't count on the baseball cap. We received calendars.

I went last September and thought it was a dud :confused3 I'll be back at BWV this coming June and it is certainly not in my itinerary!

Last summer, the member event was not a PI. It was at the entrance to Epcot, called "Summer on the Savannah" and it was miserable hot out there. I guess they took the "Savannah" portion to heart and made it feel like one. We stayed about 10 minutes, and then headed to an air conditioned attraction at Epcot. That location is perfect for the "Merry Member Mixer", but lousy for a summertime event. Those PI ones were great, but I guess DVC members didn't qualify for the a/c last summer. Hopefully they will do it back at PI this summer.

We went for the first time this past March 12th. I'm sure the exact same program is followed every week since there is always one guy who knows all the answers to the bizarre questions. *Hint: Vero Beach has 6 cottages* But,we had a good time. It's cheesy & silly but you should do it at least once. If only for the cap...

When we went to the "Summer on the Svannah" last July, we weren't given baseball caps. We were given "Animal Kingdom Villas" hats (tan with black lettering). I actually saw one of those caps on Ebay last week.

The whole Welcome Home Wednesday event is only 40 minutes????? Thats all?? For the whole thing? I thought it was going to be like a few hours.:confused3

Anyone been to Welcome Home Wednesday recently?

I am taking my first DVC trip this December and might check it out...

We did it last November. It was great we really enjoyed it. We plan on doing it twice this next trip! :)

We went on 10/28 for the first time. Pretty good crowd, I thought. The room was basically full. The trivia game was pretty fun and was hosted by Deevy See. We all got DVC Member hats at the end.

It wasn't something I'd bend over backwards to do on every trip, but if I had some free time and was nearby I'd go again. This time we were at BWV so it was very convenient.

We went on 28/10. It was our first DVC trip and we wanted to see what it was all about. I had heard that it was cheesy and a bit of a points push, but we enjoyed it, my teenage daughters more so than me and my husband I must confess.

But we went into it knowing what it would be like and still enjoyed it. I suppose the fact that we got free DVC caps and my husband won a prize helped.:rotfl:

My kids wanted to go back to the next one to get another prize and see if the hats had changed colour.:rotfl2: But we did draw the line at that.;)

We went on October 7, and there was a pretty good crowd. Besides the things that the other people have posted, we got to see a sneak preview of Prep & Landing, a Disney Christmas special.

We received white DVC hats as gifts. (In May, we received reusable shopping bags.)

We've been several times... My wife and i enjoy it. Yes it is campy but it's a nice relaxation from the hot weather, and we see the humor in Dee Vee Cee. Like i said, Campy, but fun.
Actually the fun comes in when i repeat the corny jokes to my wife afterward, and she rolls her eyes.:rotfl2:
If we had a reserveration or something at the same time, obviously that takes precidence (SP?), but otherwise we're there.
